If we protect rust, does that mean we have to expose hornqvist? Or would hagelin cover it?

I mean, just count 7 F and 3 D if that's what you want to do...

87, 71, 81, 72, 17, 62, 23 / 58, 3, 4

It only gets tricky if you want to protect more D...

Yeah, in a 7/3/1 situation, there's about a 0% chance - give or take - that it's a forward we lose...what are you gonna do? Take Archibald...? Go for it...

It's the Dumo/Cole/Pouliot/Fleury scenario where we stand to lose a quality piece (or Pouliot)...

So the question becomes, what if you go 8 skaters...

87, 71, 81, 58, 3, 4, 28 and then there's one more to add to that list...and is that Rust at this point? Which I never would have guessed six months ago, but maybe it is...then you run the risk of losing Hagelin or Hornqvist...

Is the cost of keeping Cole (or Dumo...? though I'm not entirely sure why it would be him) worth potentially losing one of 72, 62, 23, etc.? Then think about it in asset terms too...it's pretty tight...

I seriously find it amazing that the 7/3 or 8 concept is apparently so over the top difficult for people to comprehend.

Just make a list of 7 forwards and 3 defensemen -or- 8 skaters overall (only use this if you are protecting 4+ Dmen) and that is your protected list. Rocket science

Guentzel, Sheary and Sprong are exempt and do not need to be protected, so don't put them on your list.

Hornqvist is still the guy I would leave unprotected.

People tweeting this out without the context kind of ruin it. The original NBCSN tweet identified this as him reacting to the Crisby Kessel goal.

Who in the hell is that girl? Every time I see a tweet from the Penguins, or Potash, the Pens Inside Scoop jobbers, or most of the Penguins beat reports, 99% of the time she's the very first reply. Yohe a bunch of media people follow her too. I don't think she even works for any Pens outlet does she? Seems like she's just some teeny bopper fan.

By her 4 pixel profile picture I can ascertain she has a 78% probability of being hot

Oh god upon further inspection she looks 12. I'm just gonna have a seat over there

Don't they also have to protect anyone with any whole or partial no-movement clause? That would be Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang, Fleury, and I think Hornqvist (him too, according to capfriendly.com). Kunitz, Streit, and Hainsey have "modified no-trade clauses," but since their contracts all expire this summer those clauses are immaterial. There's some complexity around UFAs and RFAs, but it doesn't change your "just make a list" very much if at all for the Pens.
