Expansion Draft

Yeah that Swedish report is pretty flimsy...but that would be quite a deal for Dallas...I would have assumed Cody Eakin is the pick there (centers are tough to come by in this thing and GMGM drafted him), but Kari makes a lot of money and so does Eakin...can they really take $9 mil or whatever off of Dallas' books without getting the 3rd overall pick...?

I don't think so. If they had MAF and Lehtonen, that's almost $12 in cap for just goalies.

In theory, if Vegas claims another player and then trades for Lehtonen, Dallas could retain on the deal...just spitballing...

Which raises the possibility of.... :pop:
Happily spending $9.5 million on two goalies? ;)

If Vegas selects MAF, the Pens have ~$20 million in cap space, is that about right?

Totally. I'd love to see the Pens lose MAF, then end up getting Raanta or Grubauer (just to twist that knife into the Caps more).

I would suspect either of those goalies would likely be unhappy as they're looking for a starters share as well.

It, being Vegas, is definitely related to a happy ending.

I have not been able to find anything that corroborates the Sweden story outside of a Facebook post from a tumor longer blog thing.

You'd think, if they were going to make something up, they'd do there research and say Finland instead, since thats where Lehtonen is actually from.

I mean, it's from a mildly reputable Swedish newspaper...it's a weird source, but who knows...I'll believe it when I see it...

Popped over to LGP, and was not disappointed:
I would have felt better leaving maata unprotected because i think we've seen his best

Maatta is a thinking man's player...no surprise that they don't like him over there...

Someone else was suggesting the Pens will have to give LV their 1st found pick (for LV's 3rd) to get them to take the Flower. So much wrong on that board.

I've said it before, but if they take Rust, we'll get more than a Bryan Rust in return for MAF. I like Rust but we'll get over it

Has anyone notified INTERPOL?

I like Rust as well, but apparently we all overrate him due to his playoff heroics the past two years. Already 25 years old, 41 points in 112 career regular season games, dead last among Pens forwards in even strength points per 60 minutes, and seems to maybe be an adequate penalty killer. I like him and he's cheap, but he's not irreplaceable.

I would take a look at Hamhuis, Neal and Mrazek if I were the GM responsible for the expansion draft. The first two could net you a nice return at the trade deadline...
I remember reading on Reddit, that you could see them take more goalies to flip for assets than anything.

My irrational fear of MAF being drafted and flipped to Phi or something like that.
does maf's nmc move with him?
I haven't been able to nail down a yes or no on this. It can go either way and is on a contract by contract basis.

AFAIK, everything remains the same in regards to NMC to those 12 teams or whatever. He waived id specifically to go to Vegas. My question is, is it like other teams, where if he waives it once, it's gone completely.

I seem to remember that happening to Heatley? Was that it?

Based on my interpretation of the wording when it was reported, Fleury waived his NMC solely to allow the Penguins to expose him in the expansion draft. He didn't waive the clause for the purpose of being put on waivers or being sent to the minors AND the modified NTC remains completely untouched.

Yup, well said. He reminds me a lot of Talbot in that respect.
