Sprong's average shot distance is 36.41 feet. Only Patrik Laine and Mike Hoffman have consistently scored from that type of distance.

Perhaps if Sprong were to find a way to try to create more offense in the zone and higher quality shots, he'd be getting more PT.

I think we've arrived at the point where the team loads up with their top 2 lines and basically traps/plays defense with the bottom 2 lines. They'd have to move Brass back to the wing in order to do this - and it's very unlikely that Sully will go this route - but it's what I'd do. This team badly needs points.

I've seen some comments in GDTs about him improving some. But he's at the bottom of a very deep hole so it might be difficult to notice. And I'm not about to extend the benefit of the doubt to him.

This is exactly my theory with JMFJ - when he sucks, it's so bad that it makes an impression that won't go away. He seems to play mostly by "feel" and when he's out of sync with the speed/style of a particular game, it's hopeless. There's no coaching him back into it.

Personally, as someone that believes in using what you have, I'd try this experiment at least once. Carry 7 D. You're pretty much wasting a spot on Grant/Wilson anyway. If JMFJ is having a good game at D, so be it. You've got plenty of people to double shift - Sid/Malkie/Brass/Sheahan - do it on a day where you have at least 2 days off, no one will mind. If JMFJ is crapping the bed on D - throw him on with Sheahan and whomever. It's not like that line would score anyway and I doubt they'd give up any goals. I can't think of one reason not to try it.
