Isn't the cap based on projected revenue? If the plague goes away they could project revenue to return.

Cap is projected on projection. A real number comes out a little before free agency...Isn't the cap based on projected revenue? If the plague goes away they could project revenue to return.

Hockey may be paused, but we're still planning for the future.
The Penguins have signed college free agent defenseman Cam Lee to a two-year, entry-level contract.

For those who have The Athletic: there's a must-read piece on Michel Briere - our first superstar - in there today. I've looked into him in the past, but there's so much new information in there that I had never known and never could have possibly known...his fiance and family are interviewed, there's family photographs provided in the process, it's gut wrenching, but a great piece...

Oh, great. Read the Briere article...there are very few things decent things about this team before Lemieux...it was basically the one season of Briere and then the Century Line...that's it.
Spoke with someone who saw him play back in Quebec, said he was even better and more dedicated than Pierre Larouche...
Junior numbers are tough, but even look at rookie scoring in 1970...same pace as Bobby Clarke (he played nothing like Clarke, of course...Briere had better skating and technical skill) but Clarke had seven top-10 point seasons in his own right...who knows what happens if Briere makes it.
I'd say 1975 gets a little more interesting at least...we probably get a shot at Philadelphia in the semi-final at least...the Isles took them to 7 games after beating us in 7 that year...

I mean Lemieux comes along a decade and a half later. He'd still be playing probably. I think it's fair to say that if it plays out differently, Lemieux isn't a Penguin, right?

Briere playing for 14 years is realistic, and it likely means we have retained more valuable parts (Pronovost and Larouche both asked out as I recall)...and because of the garbagey nature of the league in the early 80s, it's likely a fast, one-way player like Briere not only extends his career (as many did, according to some quick research I put together) but excels...a la Mike Rogers...
It probably does cost us a shot at Lemieux, and we're likely a bonafide threat at some point between 1978-1982...

I didn't know Nesbitt jumped ship for the Athletic. Good piece of writing there, thanks for sharing.

Hasek was such a monster in relief in this 1992 Game 4. Penguins could have scored 12 goals and Mario himself could have had 4 or 5.

Yes he was. That skating almost out to the blue line to stop Stevens was amazing. I rewound that a couple times to watch again.
Man was that fun to watch again. And what a team that was.
