Anyone else use Mint? It's pretty sweet to have access to all of your accounts in one app. It's installed on my phone, and I get notifications about bills, but I really don't use it as much as I probably should do. I used to use Mint more than I do now. It seems to forget my logins quite a bit thou...

I don't like it when somebody calls someone else stupid. It's a childish way to undermine somebody who may have made a mistake or doesn't see things the way you do. Anybody using that term to me is more "stupid" than the person they are trying to demean. Which explains why I can't stand listening to...

Politics And Current Events

Coming in late to the train discussion, but I wanted to give my two wheat pennies worth: I've ridden on high speed trains in China, as well as the roads and airplanes. I felt most safe on the train, and felt it was the best way to get around. Now, China has a much different economy/political landsca...

Utility meters on the inside of the home. I have to drive up to Pittsburgh, wait for the gas company to check the meter, and then drive back on the day before I move. Yes, I would love to spend 8 hours in the car and up to 4 hours in an empty house waiting for the gas company to show up. Is that ev...

The use of the word "to" as a verb. Newspapers (online and print) are notorious for this. They're most likely the reason why I incorrectly use it sometimes. I don't know how a business in which its sole purpose depends on language and thus grammar can be so careless with the use of that word. Can y...

Any recommendations on the best meat thermometer? I'm thinking of getting one of the wireless types for smoking purposes. Not sure if there really is a discernible difference between the options out there.

Skim all the way for me. Wife does the almond "milk". In quotes because it doesn't pass the Focker test i.e. if it doesn't come from nipples, it ain't milk.

home theater, cord cutting, video streaming, a/v tech, and more!

Gonna re apply the cord when we move so I can watch Pens games. Also it's nice to be able to turn on the TV while I'm doing chores so it's something I can ignore. What's better in Pittsburgh; Comcast or Fios? Never had Comcast, but did have Fios. I also had DirecTV for a while, and I'd go with Fios...

5AF Beer Madness (IPA Edition) - Finals

I've been following at a distance since IPAs really aren't my go-to beer. I may grab one each of the final four contestants just to see what all the fuss is about.

Anybody up for doing something similar with other beer types? Belgians, stouts, ales, etc?

My mortgage company said that it's pretty crazy now a-day's what the banks ask for regarding information to get a loan. I was approved for a loan using my salary only, since my wife works part time and her hours are inconsistent. However, the bank was all up in arms because she took a 3 month teachi...

First championships remembered

First Super Bowl I remember watching was Redskins/Raiders from I think 1984? World Series was Royals/Cardinals in '85. I didn't know anything about the NHL until the 1988 Edmonton Oilers title and that was only because it was the first time the Charleston Gazette ever picked up an actual hockey sto...

BEER

Had an Anderson Valley Boont Barl Bourbon Ale last night. It was an enjoyable beer for the entirety of the bomber, but nothing too outlandish. 7.5/10

I also have some Unibroue Trois Pistoles sitting around waiting to be consumed. Tonight may be a good night to grill with some suds.

General question... how much does getting preapproved for a mortgage affect your credit rating? I think it all depends on how many times your credit has been pulled recently. I don't know the specific time frames, but if it's multiple pulls over the past say 6 months and they are spread out, it wil...

We're closing on a house this Friday. It's been a very long and strenuous process for us. We went from selling in a buyer's market to buying in a seller's market, all in the Greater PGH area. I'll be relieved once we sign the papers and the house is ours. For some reason I have an itch to get some p...

2015 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread

April Completed with a 12-10 record. You have to take it, but there are concerning issues that stick out for this team. The offense and the number of earned runs given up by the bullpen are the things that need to improve for the team to stay in the division race. I think the bullpen will sort itse...

1997-98 Pittsburgh Penguins - After Mario. Your recollections from that season...

40 point season for Robbie Brown. I'd credit the hair plugs. As you may tell from my name, I loved me some downtown Rob Brown. My memories from the mid to late 90s all mesh into one really. Probably my most fond memories from this season were watching games in my dorm's common room and yelling at K...
