I made the lamb. It didn't come out the way I wanted at all. I'll try again.

Kaiser liked it. It's more like Vindaloo (cue Red Dwarf joke).

I think my parents are thinking of different recipes entirely.

Clinton v. Trump - 2016 Election Thread

I'm guessing it depends on a lot of things, the least of which being their origin. Well....of course it does. But you always see Hispanic voting totals, black voting totals, Cuban voting totals, etc. Was curious what the Indian-American numbers are. Looks like they lean Democratic as a whole. In th...

Half marathon complete... 2:06:37, 9:41/mile. Best time yet, although it's only my second half

Garmin watch had the total elevation climb as 750 feet. Felt every foot of that.
Awesome! Congratulations!

@Reveutopique, I thought I recall you mentioning you were of Indian origin on the other board? Did I completely imagine that in my head?
Yes, why?

Clinton v. Trump - 2016 Election Thread

The Trump cult of personality has animated this white nationalist movement and made it somewhat safe for the cockroaches to not scatter when the kitchen lights come on. But much like the misguided defense of 'locker room talk' that presumed the outrage was over the vocabulary rather the actions bei...

^ I have an Indian Punjabi recipe book. Not sure why we have a Punjabi one as my family is Bengali. But the recipes are awesome. I'll see if I can post a few recipes from there. Sometimes if the spices aren't blended well there's a bitter taste to it, what I guess you refer to as "British curry". Lu...

Even though it's a cover I like the way he sings Mr. Tambourine man. It's Dylan's song, originally released less than a month before the The Byrds covered it. Cool! I might be confusing it with another song. I heard one of his songs performed by a traveling group in college for music history. Thoug...

Pretty big Harry Potter fan, but I'm really not all that intrigued by Fantastic Beasts. I think it's because of Eddie Redmayne's stupid face. I wanted so badly to be excited. Have you read the new book? I haven't read it yet. I would love movies and books about the founding fathers of the houses/sc...

Next time I do lamb shank (probably will be the last weekend of October for our anniversary), I'll try to remember to write down a recipe of some sort. Do you remember flavor profiles at all? Spicy? Herby? Red wine braise? Me? Omg please!!! Yes. I would be grateful! Well both are Indian so a bit sp...

Bob Dylan, Nobel Laureate

True poetry - set to music Well, that's the thing - song lyrics aren't poetry. Songwriters, when writing songs, are considering how the words work with the music. Poets don't. And that makes them two entirely different animals. Everyone here who has been quoting the words to Dylan songs certainly h...

Dylan fans, what is your favorite Dylan song? Tangled Up in Blue is mine. I'm not a fan but I like his music in general. Even though it's a cover I like the way he sings Mr. Tambourine man. There's something extremely comforting about it. And I like Talkin New York "Well, I got a harmonica job, beg...

Nope. I think it's dumb. I don't really watch any Food Network programming anymore, since they more or less abandoned stand-and-stir shows and turned Alton Brown into a clown. I miss those holiday specials they had. Jacques Pepin would always say something like and then you just take this blow torc...

I got a job offer today at a company I want to work at. Excited! I haven't accepted yet. I asked to look over the terms of the offer and they obliged. I've never been salaried before, usually contract. So crazy! I feel like I'm settling down. Weird but good.

We did a day trip to Rehoboth today. The metered parking down there can be paid via an app for a long length of time, so when I got there, I put in eight hours. Pulled out of the spot with 34 seconds left on the timer in the app...winning. That beats the hell out of feeding quarters into the machin...

Wait what? I didn't even think that'd be controversial Of all the great Hanks films in his catalog, you picked the one where he plays second billing straight man to Geena Davis, Madonna, and Rosie O'donnel. C'mon, man. I think he still stood out. So many great roles and actors in that film. My frie...
