Cooking and Dining

I’ve kept it between 250-275. Started at 7 am and I’m stalled on 174 for a couple hours now. I’d think it should be ready for dinner.

I think 225 for 20 hours or whatever is nonsense. I’m not that dedicated to the craft that I’d lose sleep over it.

Lazzara's is the one we like. Yes there's a Publix now, it opened in 2017 or so, We first went there in 2018 and it was open then.

Last we were there was August, 2020 so peak COVID. Will be glad to be back there during "normal" times again.

Smoking a 10 lb pork butt today. Local butcher had them on for $1.99 a pound a couple months ago and I bought three. Not sure why I bought a 10 pounder though. Gonna take a while.

Headed to Emerald Isle next week, first time in 4 years. Except for a shark fishing expedition, no plans whatsoever except sitting on the beach and drinking. We’re heading to pine knoll shores next week. Can’t wait. We pop into Emerald Isle a night or two to grab dinner and my kiddo loves walking t...

Guess I don’t know where else to put this and maybe we need an all sports threat like those dodint PU fans have but… PSU baseball just made its first B1G tournament final since 2000 with an opportunity for their first CWS berth since 1973. Had to win their last two series just to make the conference...

Speaking of vintage record players, I just bought a 1948 Philco 1405 that has two arms, one for 33s and another for 78s. Never seen that before. My father in law is real into restoring vintage record players/radios (retired dudes, right?) so he’s currently fixing it up for us. Not my photos: https:...

The tube sound is what did it for me. We were listening to the various units with the owner while I was trying to decide, it's incredible what they can do today with all the modern tools, but back in the 50s/early 60s they were doing all this stuff with vacuum tubes. They have a Motorola with an ear...

One of the regrets of my life is that I didn't tell my parents (and to be fair they didn't ask specifically) I wanted my grandparents' Victrola when they passed away and they asked what I wanted. I used to mess with that thing all the time. It played 78s, 45s, and had a radio. I would have loved to...

We go every time we visit my kids in Rochester and State College or my parents in Williamsport, but they’re not price sensitive trips. They are omg we gotta get their baked goods, and coffees, and cool cheeses, etc, etc….

If they become an actual grocery trip option price will matter more.

All I have is Walmart, Giant Eagle and a lame Shop n Save, you’re goddamn right I’m going to Cranberry for Wegman’s. It might not be cheaper than Giant Eagle but the quality is far better.

My one brother lived in Chicago for a time and we have this for New Years. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q7s16ewP1RU&pp=ygUSTWFsb3J0cyBjb21tZXJjaWFs It’s awful. The after taste is like you’ve just thrown up and and not washed the acid out of your mouth. I saw this at Chalet Premier (good little liq...

I have 5 of us and 5 cars and pay $575 a month, although I also get a pay in full discount off that because I pay up front for six months. I don't think I have ever seen one with two tone arms like that. Pretty sweet. You should have a different stylus for 78s than 33/45s and that's a pretty genius way to avoid switching it.

Yeah, that's good stuff Ronnie. How do you store/sort them?
I sort them alphabetically by artist, then earliest release to most recent.

I use the IKEA Kallax bookshelves which are 1’ cubes and perfect for record storage.

If you ever want a taste of Pennsyltuckey come to a demolition derby in New Alexandria
Too metropolitan, you need to go to the one at the Clinton County fair.
