I have a horizon tread and it’s been good. I usually run about 10 miles a week on it. I’ve had it for almost five years and it’s held up well.shoeshine boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 10:01 am welcome to ONE-derland! congrats, that's awesome!
very jealous that you're getting a Peloton Tread. I want one but just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money even though I know it's a great machine.
if I ever get my basement cleaned out, I'm thinking of going with the Horizon 7.0

I went to get a blood draw this morning for your normal lipids, cholesterol, blood sugar kind of check. Haven't done it in a few years and my doc asked me to do it so we can review at my yearly check up since it had been a bit...
I have to thank my dad for all the trouble I have with getting blood drawn. He had his prostate removed earlier this week and apparently they had one hell of a time getting an IV in. Our veins just don't come to the surface. And when they do, the moment a needle hits the skin, the dive like a submarine.
I tend to tell the person "just a heads up, I'm a pretty tough draw". Every single time, "oh... I'm sure I can get it, I've been doing this a while."
*spongebob 10 minutes later*
"Man, you weren't kidding. I've never seen something like this."
Only took 2 pokes today compared to the normal 4 or 5. So well done, lady at the lab!

Ok so I've had some time to run on the tread and use it in general. I even started a road to 5k program with the hopes of being ready to run a 5k on Thanksgiving...we will see.
Overall -- Much like the bike, its a super well built piece of machinery. It feels and looks premium. The screen is huge, audio is fine. It feels good to run on. No real shaking (had to level it a bit using the feet). It seems faster than the one at the gym for some reason. Like if I'm doing 4.3mph at the gym I can still walk that with no real problem. 4.3 on the peloton tread seems like a 4.5 or 4.6 at the gym, but maybe thats just me imagining things.
I'm still getting used to different instructors, but no one has annoyed me yet. I've done some 30 minute runs, and some shorter ones along with some hikes. I don't have any real complaints. We will see how it holds up with both me and my wife using it during the winter months, but overall first impressions are really good.

That's good. Would suck to lay down that chunk of change and not enjoy it.

I finally got to see a 1 at the beginning of my weight, for the first time in about 12 years. I've been on a meal replacement/low carb diet since April, and I've lost 45 pounds so far. I still would like to get down another 10 pounds, at least, and hopefully build enough muscle to stay there.
I bounced between 200-203 for almost a month and it was driving me crazy how I couldn't drop below that. Some of that was the schedule change of going back to school, with a 0500 wakeup call for my wife to get to school...which throws off my sleep and eating schedule, and contributed to the 25+ lb weight gain I had in Fall 2022 (our first full school year in our new area). I just was binge eating and overeating to compensate for the lack of sleep and fatigue.
I've actually started to run a little bit, and I can report no chronic pain. The last time I did this, 30 lbs ago, I was in misery. Just a little normal quad soreness. I'm going to keep that up as long as my plantar fascia will allow.
I am looking forward to eating bread in moderation again at some point. And Reese's Peanut Butter cups as well (also in moderation).

I decided to finally make an appointment to get a physical, my first since 2020. Naturally, I don't have a doctor here. I called the largest hospital system in the area which just opened a branch near me. The first appointment available is in January. I asked about other locations, and a brand new doctor had something in late December.
That's a bit ridiculous, right? I know we are rapidly growing here with lots of old people moving here, but months to get a physical?
I need to get a colonoscopy and I figured going with the largest hospital would help get me in earlier.

Family medicine / general practice is slammed like that everywhere. I wouldn't blame your local health system.
Duquesne University just opened a new osteopathic medical school, and Indiana University of PA is in the process of opening a new osteopathic medical school. While the difference between DOs and MDs has largely disappeared, osteopathic medical schools do tend to focus more on producing general-practice doctors more than allopathic medical schools, and there's a big shortage of primary-care doctors. The idea of the two new medical schools is to try to address that shortage in Pennsylvania. Some doctors quit during the pandemic, some are boomers that aged out of the job, and GP doctors tend to get paid less than other specialties while absolutely not working any less, so the field is less attractive to people entering medicine.

I just got back onto a similar diet last month after I saw a picture of myself in a group shot. Kinda weird that I see myself in a mirror multiple times per day and think nothing is wrong, but a couple of group pics later I was like "whoa, WTF? When did this happen?" I'm a little over a month in and I'm down 10 lbs. The worst feeling is knowing that I want to exercise more but I also don't want to **** up my Achilles and end up back at square one. It's still sore from whatever I did over the summer, but not as sore I guess. I've hit the bike, which didn't seem terrible, but it was far from the 30 minute rides that I was previously used to doing. But I also started curling again, and I'm able to push out on that foot with no problems. Maybe I just need to stop being soff.DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 9:39 am I finally got to see a 1 at the beginning of my weight, for the first time in about 12 years. The Atkins PB Cups aren't terrible and they're only 2 net carbs per cup. The peanut butter wafer things are a little more, maybe 4 net carbs. Both are kinda pricey for what they are, which is why I try to only have one occasionally.I am looking forward to eating bread in moderation again at some point. they also make a pb-filled candy similar to Reese's Pieces. You don't get a lot in a bag but you do get something like 5-6 bags per box.

Wife and I took a pic at the pens game last night, and compared it to a similar shot we took back in Feb and March at games last year...and the difference is huge (in a good way). Sometimes that is the easiest way to see how much progress you have made.

Going to a wedding this weekend so I had to buy a new dress shirt and pants since I'm down about 30lbs. I was able to fit into slim fit dress pants and a slim fit dress shirt again. I'm about 5lbs away from where I was when I got married 6ish years ago.

Nice. I am now retiring some "fat pants" that I bought last year. And they are straight to Goodwill, not hanging around for me to use again.

Yeah I've donated a bunch of clothes already, and have two more bags ready to go. I won't let myself slip up again like I did. Training for a 5k also helps keep the motivation going.

Thanks
Also I've been training to do a 5k, and been going back and forth about signing up for the Turkey Trot this year and decided just to sign up today (with my wife) as a way of validating the hard work we have been putting in. We did one like 4 years ago and it was pretty fun and I feel like I'm in good enough shape to do it again.

I don't know if we still care about this stuff, but I got my flu and COVID shots yesterday afternoon. One in each shoulder. No fogginess, but both shoulders are sore this morning: COVID shoulder feels like I was whacked with a fungo bat and the flu shot shoulder feels like I was whacked with a whiffle ball bat. On top of the sore back I woke up with Tuesday, I'm kind of a mess
But it's crazy how differently these shots feel each year.
