Job and General Employment Thread

Please Mr. PM - tell me why we’re talking about project planning a Q2 2025 project the last full week of the year, with most of our contractors furloughed. Let’s have that discussion.

I absolutely have despised the way this year has ended. Every year prior, it’s coasting until the next year post Thanksgiving. We’ve been going full-bore up until this Thursday with just nonsense. I am so mentally washed, it’s not even funny.

Same. Company usually hits marks and settles into to let people recharge for the next year. This year, doom and gloom prepping to get all the things done last minute. Didnt realize the corporate philosophy is the same as my christmas shopping...

Mrs Tif had her final 1:1 w her soon to be ex-boss. He opened with "Are you excited to get started on this next phase of your life?"

Offer came in. 12% salary bump. A little lower than I expected honestly. I'm debating asking for a signing bonus. But that feels tacky on an internal job..

I always go by the “worst they could say is no” mindset. If you’re wanting it, now’s the time to ask.

Is it a bad look internally? Or chances are the hiring manager won't ever even hear I asked.

I asked for a larger percentage jump when I was negotiating my new role. I think they threw an extra percentage or two just to make me feel like i was getting something. I also had a good relationship with the hiring HR dude so that I was able to ask without it being awkward.

Talking with a friend who's a manager, he said to just ask if there is any opportunity for a signing bonus. He told me the amount is pretty standard and paid 50/50 in 6 & 12 months. I don't know the HR person whatsoever. I just don't want the hiring manager to catch wind and be upset, but I don't think he would (be upset).

Ask, worst they can do is say no, and everyone knows it’s part of negotiating.

You gotta look out for #1. It’s worth an ask. Otherwise you’ll always wonder if you left money on the table.

I would ask. I tend to try to give money to folks that ask for it if I can. Be prepared to for a No since you don’t have previous management experience

Based on his management skills on display in gear grinding thread I'd say he's a perfect fit for management.

I don't understand how grown adults in the digital age still just click on whatever random bullshit gets sent to them.

I actually pissed off IT last month because they sent us a training from a 3rd party website with 0 warning and no identifying information that the training was from the University. Totally looked like a simulated phishing scam, so I sent it over, then told them they should probably tell us before blasting non-descript bullshit out to the general public.

I failed some phishing emails a couple of years ago after I switched companies.

I feel like when those tests first started, they were like imitation Nigerian prince emails that were obvious. Then I am not sure if it was the way they did it at the new company, but they weren't obvious. I remember one was like, you're manager (and the actual person's name) has left you a message in XYY system, click here to view.

So I failed like two of then a 3-month span and had to do training. But now exercises are back to being obvious.

One of the e-mails was a pretty convincing one. The other looked like it was written by a toddler, and I actually lol'd on our team call when he said he clicked on it.

I report one of the Ops guys e-mails as phishing attempts in the hopes that they eventually block him from sending e-mail to anyone ever again.

Are rare vent from ya boy

Our children’s hospitals always rank every high on the USNWR surveys each year. The awards aren’t worth the paper they are printed on, but it’s marketing fuel so we dump hundreds of man hours into it each year.

Our board set a goal to increase the number of specialties we submit surveys for. My team historically handles 9 of the 10. The one we don’t has a new leader over them. We had a call a few weeks ago and this dude hymed and hawed over his team not having bandwidth. I told him it’s a board priority project and everything else takes a backseat. He continued to squirm about it. So ya boy - who is direct and transparent to a fault - told him I’ll throw his **** ass under the bus if he drops the ball because I’m the face of the survey for the enterprise.

Well guess who missed their deadline, got chucked under the bus by yours truly then ran to his boss to complain about me. Like. I warned you bud. Do your **** job man.

Love them or hate them, they help bring in everything from patients to donors, and help generate revenue.

My coworker abruptly quit one day. My boss tells me she's going to have her voicemails forwarded to me. I say cool and think nothing of it. Like an hour later I get an email telling me I have a new voicemail, so I was just in autopilot mode. I got got by the worst timing ever lol

Pro tip. Get a new job 2 days before a two week vacation and you don't have to transition your duties to someone else. :pop:
