No popcorn needed, as the entire cast will be new. I’m interested in this.

Nah that popcorn is absolutely needed. There has been some very passionate opinions shared about… certain casting choices on this board.
Regardless, Essiedu has some awfully big shoes to fill. I hope he’s great.

Dumb. Snape is supposed to be a pale, greasy, goth kid turned pale, greasy Dark Arts professor. Regardless of skin color (which won't go over well), this dude is too good looking for the character.

I hope they get a golden retriever to play Harry. Think air bud and the sorcerer's stone. That's gold, Harry! Gold!

I decided to watch NYPD Blue, a show I didn't catch during its initial run. Man, I hate 90s editing/cinematography.

I loved NYPD Blue. Ricky Schroeder sucked, though.

I'm not sure why I never watched it. I'm only on the second ep, so I have a while before Schroeder shows up.
Boy howdy, they sure did go all in on the nudity on that first episode. I'm not complaining, but I can't imagine anything like that on network TV these days.

Yeah, racists are gonna racist and all, but I agree, they're gonna really have to ug this guy up if he's supposed to be playing an incel who can't get any.Dickie Dunn wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 7:28 pm Dumb. Downloading the show now.DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 04, 2024 2:26 pm Meanwhile, one of the best shows on TV (Slow Horses) has a trailer for the next season after the finale of a current season. (Yes, it only has 6 episode seasons, but still...)
DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 9:04 am Slow Horses on Apple TV+ was very good. Modern spy thriller, tinged with humor. Produced by Graham Yost (Band of Brothers/Pacific, Justified, etc.) and stars Gary Oldman as a washed up spy that is in charge of the eponymous Slow Horses, which are the washed out/up branch of MI5. Kristin Scott Thomas is excellent as well. Only six episodes, but it looks like the second season has already been filmed and will be out soon.
DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 12:23 pm Mythic Quest (also on Apple TV+) is good. Think Silicon Valley but about video games. And a little funnier than the last 2 seasons of Silicon Valley.
Slow Horses was really good too, at least the first season. Based on a series of books, with Gary Oldman, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), and Jonathan Pryce in a minor role. Good stuff if you like spies, thrillers, etc., but a lighter take on it than say Homeland or The Americans. Season 2 is airing now.
Echo 3 looks good, too.

In other news, we watched the S03 finale of The Bear last night because I got sick of seeing it in the list. I don't think we'll be watching S04. There are only so many episodes I can take where 10+ minutes of it is a macro shot of somebody's face as they stare into the abyss.

Hey, that's Emmy award-winning comedy The Bear you're talking about here.

If they would’ve called it Season 3 Part 1 people would’ve been more forgiving.

We've been putting off watching S03 of the Bear just because we heard it wasn't great.
We did watch the latest episode of Shrinking last night...and as usual it was superb. Such a well written show and everyone plays their parts perfectly.

I feel like Shrinking pushes the same buttons as Ted Lasso, probably helped that Roy Kent made an appearance to connect those dots. But all the characters are exaggerated personas with a lot of tension and drama steamrolled by like love/friendship.
I think the gay friend, Harrison Ford, Jefferson, the daughter, and the Daily Show girl are great. Jason Segal and the former Drew Carey woman / mutant are tough to watch.

That's funny. Shrinking was created by Jason Segal, Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Bill Lawrence, who is the showrunner and was also a producer/showrunner for Ted Lasso. So Shrinking is definitely in the same vein as vein as Ted Lasso. I really like Jason Segal. He's a weird dude but I think he's funny and smart. I also really loved his Muppets movie.

I think it might lean more the character than the actor. And probably the same with Drew Carey lady. All of the characters are written to be exaggerated stereotypes. The exaggerated version of the mopey / cringe dad and type-A crystals mom are unbearable to me.nocera wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:37 am That's funny. I saw that but I'm not sure it's as big a deal as the headline suggested. The actual quote was, "As you look at ’26 and into ’27, you begin a 10-year journey on the ‘Harry Potter’ series, which we’re super excited about. And I’d argue, may be the biggest event by the time we get to that series.”
To me, that sounds like it'll be a late 2026 release and bleed into 27. Isn't that what they were targeting anyway? With a child cast, at least they won't be able to take 2-3 years off between seasons. Right? Stranger Things, I'm looking at you.

Maybe do what The Crown did with recasting every few seasons to get the different ages correct-ish? Then again, they may be able to film these fairly quickly as the source material has been completed for a while.

Yeah, it's odd, I'm on board with all of that and from the eps I've watched, I don't even mind Christa Miller since my Scrubs and Clone High fandom makes it impossible for me to hate her.Troy Loney wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:42 amI think it might lean more the character than the actor. I'm even usually a fan of Jason Segal, so it really should check all my boxes. But his performance just doesn't click for me in a really big big way. Maybe I'll give it another go at some point down the line...
