I do not think they did, which makes highlighting them even funnier imo.

Yeah, that's what threw me off initially re: who the killer would be. I guess they'll (hopefully) incorporate them into season 5, given the setup...

The Penguin Ep7
Okay let's get this out of the way: It was straight up super duper lame to have Maroni die of a heart attack during his flight with Oz. That was so incredibly lazy and unfulfilling and frankly annoying, I really didn't expect that from this show and it has colored my whole perception of this episode. I get the story rationale, denying Oz his satisfaction, but it's dumb. It's basically how the shark dies in the book Jaws, and it's dumb there, too; there's a reason they changed it to death by SCUBA tank for the movie.

Mrs Tif thinks Oz killed his brothers on purpose, I think their death was.... deliberately unintentional? Either way he clearly felt no remorse and came to lean into it.

Where the heck did Vic go?

D.A.R.E. ftw

Dr Rush still hasn't spoken to or been spoken to by anyone other than Sofia - the psych ward patient - and Oz's hallucinogenic mom. Someone pointed out that when he comes in and kneels in front of Mama Oz her eyeline doesn't change, like she doesn't even acknowledge him. Then again, who delivered the news of Gia at the hospital and arranged for Sofia to meet with her? (Apparently the hospital set was just the Arkham set redressed, so when Sofia is walking the halls it feels unfortunately familiar to her and to us.)

I sort of expected Oz to shoot his mom at the exchange to pay off her desire to have him end her suffering. It would rob Sofia of her leverage and payoff Oz's descent into evil.

Still wouldn't be surprised if Rex is Oz's dad.

The episode should've ended with an appearance by the Batman....

Good stuff.
I agree with most of it. Deliberately unintentional is well said,
Dr Rush is so creepy when he pops up, there's something unsettling about him. Daughter and I keep thinking he'd be a good scarecrow, but a figment of Sofia's imagination is something I never thought of. Could he be someone she created to help deal with her trama of her dad and the hangman? Maybe Sofia is the hangman and uses him as distraction so she doesn't believe it's her? Seems like a lot to unveil with one episode left.

Sounds like Barry Keoghans Joker may be the next Batman series which would lead into him being the main villain of The Batman 3

I was just watching something about that. It's kinda refreshing they have the discipline to hold him back from The Batman 2, although I gather he is going to be more prominent in the sequel than he was in the first movie.

Good, there are already too many Joker-focused titles.

Only 4 episodes in but I’m enjoying this season much more than 3. Although Selena Gomez’s voice is more grating than ever.

The Day of the Jackal's first 5 episodes are already out in the UK, and I think it debuts on Peacock this week. As such, I've watched the first five episodes and largely enjoyed it. The first episode is excellent, and the premise is pretty solid. I have some issues with some of the side plots which are unnecessary and feel tacked on to pad this out to 10 episodes.

IIRC, isn't there someone here who loathes Eddie Redmayne? Because if so, you'll probably want to sit this one out.

I have no opinion on him either way tbh. I recently re-watched The Pillars of the Earth, a 2010 8 part miniseries based on the Ken Follett novel. He stars in it (with Matthew MacFadyen, Ian McShane, and Hayley Atwell) and he was fairly lame in that.

Russel Crowe got the lion's share of the lulz for his casting because he was so badly misaligned (vocally) for Javert; he's the first named character to speak iirc. But Redmayne really wasn't that much better as Marius. Movie had massive potential but only like half the players really brought the goods imo.

The correct takeaway here is of course "Samantha Barks".

DigitalGypsy66 wrote: Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:05 am For some reason, both my wife and I thought Nobody Wants This was a rom com movie. It's not, but actually a decent 10 episode comedy on Netflix starring Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Justine Lupe, and Timothy Simons. Actually pretty entertaining and light. Brody and Bell have enough chemistry that I think Dax Shepard needs to be concerned.
pretty spot on. Bell and Brody are fantastic. Great chemistry and nice to see Brody get a starring role in something again. I don't think he's a future Oscar winner, but the dude is a solid actor and is good with witty characters. Simons and Lupe are also great. Lupe is a scene stealer and not just because she's incredibly attractive.
Also halfway through and would agree will all the above. Though I've found Lupe to be perfectly fine, and Simons in particular really excelling in the hallowed "comedic side-kick" role.

"Keeping The Faith" walked so "Nobody Wants This" could run. Not really, of course, but both being rom-coms really drives some of the parallels home.

Meanwhile Samantha Barks hasn't graced my screen since while Eddie Redmayne and his stupid **** lizard face continues to roam free, ruining movie, and now apparently TV productions, after movie after movie.

Yeah it did. :thumb: *chef's kiss*
I thought Oz was going to kill Ma himself to get rid of the weakness of human connection, and I thought Vic was going go out in a blaze of glory.

While Oz was talking to the Councilman I sorta thought something like Sofia's end was in store, but the execution still caught me off guard. What an arc. I loved the montage of all the #2s rising up.

Speaking of arcs....... I did not see the riverfront scene coming. That was horrific. Mrs Tif had just gotten a bit misty eyed over the hospital scene and she was like "F**K. THAT. MAN." haha But in the way the uprising montage was Oz's path to winning the Game, partying way with Vic as he did was a perverse payoff to his own arc. Ultimately, saving Vic wasn't a mistake - but after his journey he recognized keeping him would be.

Almost as horrific as that was the final dance scene. Ew. I was still holding on to my theory about Ma right up to the penthouse scene, I though he was going to unplug her after giving her all that she wanted. But then Eve with the wig and the dress and the blue eye shadow....ew once again for good measure. Oz Cobb-Bates.

But I'm still holding on to the idea that Rex Calabrese is Oz's dad, and we'll learn at some point in Oz's teen years he actually killed him, too, to eliminate competition
..... Oedipus Rex Calabrese.
