Figured I'd start this because I'm in a heated debate with someone I don't know about scoring PPR.

I find it absolutely pointless. A RB's or WR's value is directly related to the yardage or scoring (TDs) they manage. Receptions mean nothing beyond how many yards they gain because of it.

I hate how a 5 yard pass is more points than a 5 yard run because a reception was involved. They have the same value in the eyes of the team.

Yeah PPR sucks, not a fan at all.

Just to verify, I have to keep Gronk with a 5th over Rodgers with a 2nd right? 10 team standard scoring.

Yep. Gronk will be going in the 1st or 2nd in most redraft leagues and after him the quality of TEs drops off significantly. Rodgers will be drafted in the 2nd round in most leagues and there are plenty of comparable QBs available afterwards.

it's a tough call because it's based on Gronks health. If he stays healthy, he's the most valuable player in fantasy because he's much better than any other TE (and The Pats know how to use him)

Though a second round draft pick is pretty good...

there was a specific request for a fantasy forum. we'll keep things over there.

If you want to do a sign-up thread or something like that in off topic to get better visibility, that's fine, but a thread like this that will likely be extensive, we'll put it in the fantasy forum.

I didn't like the perpetuation of the idea that NFL football is somehow special or better than the other sports that did play by the rules.

not sure if I'm expecting any responses since dodint killed this thread, but I'm trying to come up with another ff team name.

I got Hail Peyton! (ala Hail Satan) but I'm not sure people will get it.

are people even doing drafts yet? This is like me making a GDT for the opening game of the Pens season and being upset no one is posting...

at risk at looking like an idiot because no one is looking at this dead thread: who's the top QB right now? I'm split between Rodgers (I think I give him the edge), Luck and Peyton.

Yeah you should definitely draft peyton as if he is in a tier with luck and rodgers.

Rodgers...then everyone else you gotta think. Luck heading that next group I presume...scoring matters, Luck will pick up rushing yards but also lose ground on sacks, so...not sure how that shakes out...

he would've had similar numbers as them if he stayed healthy last year

Yeah, Manning in the first half of last season was insane wasn't he? Like MVP candidate good? Because Rodgers had kind of slower start (relax) and Manning was guns blazing, IIRC...

I have Rodgers slightly ahead of Luck. When they're both playing I have Rodgers a decent amount above him, but I trust Luck's health a lot more. Then it's a pretty substantial drop off to the Manning/Wilson tier.

here's my first draft (14 teams)

QB Tony Romo Dal - 53rd
WR Emmanuel Sanders Den -32nd
WR Brandon Marshall NYJ - 60th
RB Jamaal Charles KC - 4th
RB C.J. Spiller NO - 81st
TE Jimmy Graham Sea - 25th
W/R/T Roddy White Atl - 88th
BN Tevin Coleman Atl - 109th
BN Torrey Smith SF - 137th
BN Chris Polk Hou - 165th
BN Cody Latimer Den - 172nd
BN James White NE - 200th

K Stephen Gostkowski - 116th

DEF St. Louis - 144th
BN Denver - 193rd

the pick that's annoying me the most is Graham at 25. I wasn't big on picking him that early but I wasn't fan of what was left on the board at that point. I'm also meh about my reach for Romo.

for my bench guys I tried to go high ceiling.

I'm drafting in an 8 team tmw. First time ever. Is there even a strategy for that or just best player available all the way thru? It's a first year league my friend wanted to start so draft order will be drawn 30 minutes prior. Just load up on a particular position the first few rounds or what?

It depends on your scoring. Some positions can become more valuable than others depending on format...is it PPR? What are QB TDs worth? ...etc.

The bench could have more upside probably...Fitz, Floyd, Gio Bernard, Tre Mason even, maybe even Dwayne Allen, there isn't that much upside there for various reasons...one tough thing you have overall is a lot of players on bad teams, you may only have Lynch and Allen and Romo on a playoff-caliber team...which can be good for garbage time passing, but is not really good for running...

But in an 8-team league, rosters are usually pretty stacked, so all that matters is the quality of starters...it's an arms race...without seeing other rosters, I'm sure you have a good of a shot as any...

I'd start improving your bench for upside...like dropping Fitz for Devante Adams or some such...
