I recently did some research on current am5 motherboards to upgrade my am4 based system.
The scalpers of the 7800x3d & 9800x3d processors made my decision easier.
I bought a 5700x3d cpu to replace my 5600x. It was under $200. I could work with that until am6 releases now.
At first I thought mb, cpu, and ram would be good, but then I started looking at new power supplies and GPU.
With my twins both at college and out of the house, I could justify buying an am6 if that meant handing down my current setup to my wife
They have PS5 Disc drives in stock, but only for Pro members. Pro is only $25 (up from $15) so it's better than the scalpers, but I have no use for a Pro account. I haven't shopped in a GameStop since I moved out of Allison Park (the one in Latrobe went away, and the one in Greensburg is in the mall, yuck).
If you had an account I'd ask for an assist but it's not worth having you sign up again if you already closed it for lack of use.

It's a problem I've seen with Best Buy. It will show in stock until you get to the payment screen. It's frustrating because I have a few retailers I have to check but I have to jump through this extra hoop with Best Buy.
It doesn't really matter. I'm going to either find one in person at Walmart tonight or pay the GME tax. The only other thing I could do is open a GME credit card, get the free Pro, then cancel Pro and the card when I get it. I don't care that much though. There is just a really strong urge in me not to reward this scalper nonsense, whether it's individuals or corporate behavior.

I fried up the OG Crash Bandicoot on PS1 today and totally forgot the only time you actually get to save your progress is when you complete a bonus level.
Given that I picked up a PS5P and finally sourced a disc drive for it I knew this would be a PS5 Christmas.
Astro Bot, my sister and I both had this on our list and my brother got us each a copy. I only played the first stage but it's really cool, clearly a loveletter to PlayStation. Looking forward to playing through it. I am a little disappointed there isn't a local co-op option, I thought it would be similar to Little Big Planet in that way.
Batman: Arkham Collection (PS4), my sister got this for me. I missed these games the first time around and got back into Batman a year or two ago so I've wanted to pick it up for a while. I'll play though these after I re-play through the Metal Gear Solid games, most likely.
Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Expanded Edition (PS5), this is a really interesting Atari history compilation. Rather than being just a ROM list it is effectively a digital museum for Atari consoles and arcade machines. It walks you through the history of Atari's various eras with videos and other exhibits. It also has an extensive list of playable games which include the box art and the original manuals, an awesome touch. I got acquainted with it by playing different releases of Breakout/Super Breakout. It's not the same as playing with the original controller (the 7800 joystick, in my case) but until I get my game room setup this will scratch that itch.
For my birthday the wife took me to The Exchange and bought me a copy of Silent Hill for PS1. I don't collect for value but it did eclipse my copy of GigaWing (Dreamcast) as the most expensive title in my collection.
I'm going to pick up the Silent Hill 2 remake with one of my gift cards. Not in a big hurry though as I have a few games ahead of it that I want to play, including Silent Hill 1.
Not Christmas/Birthday related, but I started playing Tetris Effect and it kind of blew me away on first play. I can see potential for some addiction with that one, similar to the way I was hooked on Rocket League back in the day.
The Arkham Collection games are (mostly) tremendous. I don't know if the remasters address the tedium of the Riddler trophies in City, but the games really reward completionism. And the voice acting is generally top notch, too.

Started Cyberpunk 2077 while my wife was gone this past weekend.....and its pretty amazing. I know it had a really really bad launch, but it seems like over the course of the last few years they really got it right and patched it up. I put about 13 hours in almost and barely got through act 1 cause I wanted to explore. I tend to be someone who skips dialogue and things, but the story has totally pulled me in and the level of customization is awesome.
