@RonnieFranchise, this would sound good on your console.

How do you like it now that you've had for a while?

It’s fabulous, I love it, thanks for asking. We have managed not to get around to decorating the tree yet, probably will be Christmas Eve, but I’m planning to put a stack of old Christmas records that have been handed down to me on it and it will be just like when I was a kid at my Grandparents’ house.

On the surface New Order and the late Quincy Jones don't seem to have much in common musically, but he produced some of their stuff and they were on his label in the US. Pretty cool story.

Norm's is one of the best places in the world imo. I've been there to buy merch and watched them film content for their (excellent) YouTube channel. This store is absolutely legendary, all the moreso for Norm himself.

Not the best documentary I've ever seen, but it captures the spirit of the thing well.

You have to use this format of the YouTube url for the embeds to work. The "short" url the share button often gives doesn't work.

For the last 7 or 8 months, I have been volunteering at my local college radio station. I've done about twenty 2 hours shows so far and it's been so exciting. Just wanted to give a thankful shout-out to this thread for providing me some songs and inspiration for my playlists! Well done.

They are having issues with the streaming, it was supposed to be fixed by Christmas, but here we are. I'll happily post when it's fixed and I know when I have another show scheduled. I'll happily take more listeners, there are currently dozens of us! That may or may not be because its the only radio station in America playing songs from Bloodsport on a regular basis.

I've always liked Kate Bush, even as a 12-year old, but it seems I'm becoming an obsessive fanboy in middle age.

There was a break in the winds yesterday so we hoofed it up the coast to Santa Barbara for the afternoon. Got to a public parking structure and I pulled into a spot next to a white Rolls Royce, license plate CA "SCRUE". They got out as we were shutting down. It was Nikki Sixx and his wife and daughter. He wears a man purse.

So that was neat.

That is neat, I always got poison and motley crue mixed up for some reason. Remember in 99 going to star lake to see poison, ratt, great white and la guns and thinking I was going to see motley crue.

Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater playing Taylor Swift was not on my list of things I thought I would ever hear, but that was a super cool video.

A friend of mine nearly got into a fight with him leaving a bar in NYC a number of years ago. Portnoy staggered out/was bounced drunk as a skunk and stumbled into some passersby (including my friend and his friends) and he took their presence in his way as an afront. Began shoving people and challenging them. Apparently he held up his hands and said they were insured for a million dollars.

On that night my friend and his buddies were on their way home from their Muay Thai gym. I gather Portnoy's been sober a long while now. Which is probably better.

As a huge Vangelis fan, that I did not know this already embarrasses me. In 1981 Vangelis and Jon Anderson of Yes released their second album, The Friends of Mr Cairo. The song "State of Independence" was released as a single, and it was moderately successful in Europe. I knew that. What I did not know was that Donna Summer recorded and released a cover of "State of Independence" in 1982, which was produced by Quincy Jones and featured an an all-star choir lineup including Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, Christopher Cross, Dyan Cannon, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Peggy Lipton, Patti Austin, Michael McDonald, and Stevie Wonder:

Further, not only was the recording of the choir for the "State of Independence" basically a template for how Quincy Jones would later record "We are the World," but Quincy Jones said in an interview in 2018 that he believed that Michael Jackson cribbed the bass line from "State of Independence" for "Bille Jean."

So "Bille Jean," one of the most popular songs of all time, might owe its existence to a song from Jon and Vangelis.

What an incredible album, I just played Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts on my radio show last week. I love doing my bob impersonation and singing to idiot wind.

@Shyster question for you: I believe you mentioned that you started listening to billy strings a bit ago. Are you still listening? I'm genuinely curious to see if his left leaning lyrics in the majority of his work takes away from your listening experience? I'm trying to think of some bands/songs on the other side to flip this question to myself, but can't really come up with any talent in this same situation.

Sure, I'm still listening. I don't recall any lyrics that I found objectionable, and I don't think it takes away from the experience. We you thinking of any particular songs that you thought I might not like?

No, nothing really in particular, just know he has a bunch of anti capitalism songs and wondered if that changes anything with a listener
