Picks are good, but this seems like a decent player who was playing well and giving a ****. I guess you have to deal who has value to other teams...

Rumblings they've been trying to move Eller for a bit. Maybe Eller's agent said "Make the deal now" after last night's game?

Until you can't, or that spot is filled by someone else, or Eller falls off in play again, or you got forced to use your last retention spot to make it work...

If you have a 3 and a 5, you have a 2.

In our case, we just picked up a couple of 8th round picks...

As of now we have 10 picks in 25, 9 picks in 26, and 10 picks in 27. 7 3rd round picks total.

These 2027 draft picks are doing a great job of convincing Sid that the team will be competitive... while he's chilling at home... retired.

I feel like they could've gotten more dealing closer to the deadline. Eller was one of the few players who seemed to give a crap.

I guess what depreses me about this move is that unless we're gonna put these picks in a larger package or if we're just making room for a baby Pen to come up and be better than Eller, we're effectively just conceding the rest of 87 and 71's careers to a rebuild. which is...sad

the canadian hockey media was on fire today about the "tragedy" of sid missing the po's for a 3rd consecutive year as if it were fsg's solemn duty to make sure that doesn't happen by trading him to a contender.

If Sid wants to be traded he will be. End of discussion.

Because we traded a 35 year old, 30 point player in early November...?

who’s playing well…on a team that’s already bad…for draft picks…

I don’t see how this will improve our team in the next year and Sid and Geno don’t have much time left

Not that I don't get your point...but I don't really see this deal, in a vacuum, really impacting things too, too much. Not over the course of three seasons like you're dooming...

Maybe Sam Pou.....................heh, nevermind. But look, maybe we get a look at some young players and maybe that advances things with them a bit or we strike gold (er, copper) with one of them...

Eller had a decent start, he's been ok in the last handful...I'm not too worried about it. Maybe we can find a more consistent puck distributor in that slot and it opens up someone like Puustinen...

I was initially upset about this trade, like "that's all you got back for Eller?" But you're right, he's still a 30 point player who is on the back end of his career and is on an expiring deal.

I thought maybe this was a move related to perhaps a bigger deal, but not sure what bigger deal that you're gonna see with only 2.4m available.

I get what you mean. It’s not like Lars would’ve been crucial in a playoff run or anything so losing him doesn’t kill us. But to me trading him for picks indicates that Dubas is more into rebuilding than retooling and the clock is ticking on our core’s career

out of curiosity, if you had to bet (even odds), do you think we’ve already seen the last playoff game for 87? I’d say yes at this point

What do you mean? He'll definitely make the playoffs with Colorado.
