Surprised he ended up making it, even if just for a game.

my friend that's a Rangers superfan says they should tear it all down and rebuild around Lafreniere. that includes trading Igor.

Well Igor's contract is up and wouldn't sign an 8 x $11 offer so that's not as crazy as it sounds.
Granted, you'd want to try and keep a goalie of that caliber, but I'm guessing dude is tired of being the one constantly bailing the rest of the team out.

Lindy Ruff's next successful challenge will be his first.

Wait trading their captain didn’t solve all their problems?

I’m so confused; why did they introduce the deaf performer if he wasn’t going to sing the anthem?

who are the idiots who put the Blackhawks in the winter classic before they showed they could be a good team?

Some random FB page was mentioning that viewership of the WC was under 1 million for the first time and wondering what the NHL needs to do to get people to watch.
I mean... I was aware the game was on NYE this year, but I was watching college football and while the Sun Bowl and Citrus Bowl aren't playoffs, they were good games in the 4th quarter and there was no incentive to click over. Then the CFP game started somewhere around the 2nd intermission.
Scheduling was sub optimal.
Schedule teams people actually want to watch. The Blues and Blackhawks are a rivalry in the Midwest and Conor Bedard is an up and comer. Chicago has good facilities to put it in. I can't think of any other reasons to feature these teams. It's planned a year in advance but there was pretty good evidence that they were not going to be competitive. As of today they are both out of the playoffs just like they were supposed to be. We've bemoaned on this board the number of times the Pens have been in the WC and Stadium Series, and it seems like they, the Flyers, Caps, Bruins, Rangers are always in it- but people watch those teams. If that involves the aforementioned being in the game for the 10th time and playing at Fenway yet again, so what?
Promote the hell out of it. I'm not a huge media consumer but how would Joe Public peripheral hockey fan who's not talking about it on a hockey message board know to tune to TBS late afternoon on NYE, which may have been a work day, for the Winter Classic? I don't recall seeing ads for it online, on TV (I mostly watch sports and movies on TCM so I don't see a ton of ads), on a billboard...
Make the WC special. They added the Stadium Series games. Do one per year. They diluted their product. Oh, another outdoor game's on TV. So what?

I honestly didn't know who was playing or that it wasn't on new year's day until the day of.
Outdoor games just aren't that special anymore.

It's called "Classic" but was played by two teams that didn't exist 10 years ago. I wonder why nobody cared.

… huh? I think you might be looking at the wrong Winter Classic. There were two in 2024.

I could sit and watch the rangers lose any time I’m asked. It’s very enjoyable.
