I think NIL stripped anything Pitt had going for it away, and we’re seeing the major effects of that decision.

The Pete last night reminded me of what the Pete looked like in the "better" parts of the Stallings era, so the apathy is certainly starting to set in.

It's just such a poorly-coached team. They lose the same way every game. He plays short benches every game. They take awful shots. They don't just not rebound, they get absolutely destroyed on the glass (293rd out of 355 teams in the country in rebounds per game) but for some reason Papa Kante still never plays. They only thing more than a clear offensive gameplan is their identity.

Seven seasons under Capel and barring some sort miracle ACC tournament run, this will be six without a postseason tournament appearance. Wash, rinse, repeat. If they have to bring Capel back for another year, there need to at least be staffing changes.

I wasn't a huge Jamie Dixon fan, especially at the end of his tenure, but those were undeniably well coached teams with an actual offensive philosophy and could beat you a variety of ways. Stallings came in, the inmates started running the asylum, led by the toxic twins of Young and Artis, and any semblance of offensive strategy went out the door other than guys dicking around and taking shots, which has continued under Capel. If the big hitters are having an off night, we're ****.

The thing about Dixon teams is that they played good defense and gave a sht about rebounding. If a team does those two things well they are prevent really big defects and can come in handy when trying to build a lead. Very similar to the Steelers way under Tomlin. Never really out of a game but can make it hard to win one.

This Pitt team can never dig itself out of any hole because it can’t stop the other team from scoring and can’t rebound the ball in the rare event the other team misses.
