I just took a Quick Look on Zillow and a one bedroom condo starts at $600k
This is going to be expensive

Multiple other fires sparked off in the LA area overnight. We can see three of them. Closest is near our old neighborhood, but relatively small. Palisades is about 10 mi away; hit 12,000 acres in 24 hrs, which is terrifying.
Currently around 30,000 acres burning in and around the city and I don't think they have containment on any of it yet.

KCAL is saying that the fires have covered over 11000 acres with 0% contained. That's over 17 square miles. @tifosi77, where are you in relation to this?

There are two separate fires that are over 10,000 acres each. (Palisades and Eaton (Alta Dena near Pasadena))
There's a smaller fire in Sylmar which is north of Burbank. That's not too far from the Eaton fire, but they are in different valleys with different wind conditions. Eaton is proving to be the more menacing of all the fires so far growing very very fast.
Right after the last post the small fire in the Sepulveda Basin (near our old neighborhood) was reported as 100% knocked down, so that's good. But a new fire at Leo Carrillo Beach North of Malibu has started. So far 100 homes along PCH have been lost.
We live in West Hills, which is the far northwest corner of the city. We can see and smell the smoke from all the fires currently except for the newest one at Carrillo. Like I said Palisades is only about 10 mi away and the air assets are overhead a lot because there's a reservoir just north of us and we're in the flight path from VNY airport to the Pali zone (as I was typing this we were overflown by two Canadian amphibious fixed wing assets).

stupid question - how can you tell which fire you are smelling?

You're adjacent to another wildfire this year, huh?
I wonder if there is a lesson here.
Maybe next year.

My wife is supposed to fly to LA in two weeks for a conference. Fun times.

This is going to be an extinction level event for real estate insurance in California.
Pali fire is likely going to be the most expensive in state history and it has only been burning for 30 hours.

Another fire started or spread, this one in the Hollywood Hills.

Yeah these fires are in the middle of the city. They're starting in brush and are almost immediately in dense neighborhoods. The new Sunset fire is like 1000 yds from the Hollywood Bowl.
Any one of these fires would be a big deal. All of them simultaneously is actual horror.

I’m not trying to be funny here but it’s ironic it was against the flames.

Just terrible seeing all of this on the news. Not only losing everything in the fires but now the water is unsafe to drink, no electricity, and the firefighters and other emergency crews have been at it for days straight with no rest or end in sight.

More wind today and tonight, too. 80mph+. Scary stuff, like the big raids on Tokyo and Dresden (sorry Gaucho). The fires generate so much wind on their own.

Just terrifying watching the coverage.
I have to admit that I was fairly ignorant on how the Santa Ana winds are formed, how they end up going east to west, or why they can be so problematic. Last night I saw a decent visual representation. Absolutely crazy how 'efficient' these winds are at not only being created, but then creating this type of chaos. Clock-wise rotating super-dry desert air that gets funneled through mountains to pick up speed, then is basically shot back at the coast.
