Can I talk about the eclipse here? What if I want to reference how inevitably cloudy it will be?

This story is both crazy and tragic. A landslide in a remote area of Papua New Guinea basically wiped out an entire village, with more than 2,000 people unaccounted for. The slide also wiped out the road to the area, so only helicopters can get in for now.

Northern Lights are on tonight, they look better in a photo but you can definitely see them here in Beaver County. Deep purple.

I don't think Waze has an "avoid wildfires" setting.

To be fair both GMaps and Waze tried to direct me to routes with active road closures (because of the fire) this morning.

New wildfire alert!

There's currently a fire along the coast in the Palisades that's effectively cutting the western part of the city in half with all the road closures. News alerts went from "There's a fire in the Palisades" to "EVACUATE THE PALISADES RUN FOR YOUR LIFE" in about 30 minutes. 0 to 3,000 acres in about 7 hrs.

100s of people got stuck in traffic and abandoned their cars along Sunset Blvd and Palisades Dr during the mandatory evacuation of what is now up to around 30,000 residents of that area. They had to bring in a forklift to physically plow the cars to the side so fire trucks could get through. Thankfully local resident and concerned citizen Steven Gutenberg - Carey Mahoney! - has been on the TV talking about the urgency of responsible evacuation (e.g. "If you must abandon your car, leave the keys behind so responders can move your dopey s**t out da way.")

I left work around noon and it took 2 hrs to get home because all of the coastal traffic was diverted inland and congesting the roads. So it's another work-from-home week for Uncle Tif now.

Yeah, when I looked at the mandatory evacuation zone on Google Maps I was shocked at how big of a densely populated area that is. Awful
