Got my opening guide design done, just waiting on the new filament. I'll have to print one for each filament to see the shrinkage since it varies from both brand to brand and color to color. Kind of annoying, but if you want to be precise, these guides will be useful in the future.

I thought about printing sample bolts, too, but if I'm printing both the bolts and the nuts to be used together, it shouldn't matter if they shrink since they would shrink at the same rate. Now, if I were designing a replacement part - like a leg on my pancake griddle - that used a steel nut, I'd want to print some sample bolts to figure out the difference, and then note them.

My wife has an antique Christmas tree topper, it's been passed down three generations now. For some reason this year the bulb in it was warmer and deformed the plastic backing. I thought to myself the other day "I bet NTP66 could fix this."

We've got a Raise 3D Pro in our office and my father just got an Ender Pro.
I got one 4 years ago or so and have used it once (getting it set up and keeping it level was ridiculous).

Leveling the bed is a PITA, and I hate it. My next printer will have automatic bed leveling, and I will be buying a BLTouch auto leveling kit for this one soon enough.

It was very easy for me to get addicted. I love this stuff, and am enjoying the CAD side way more than I thought I would. I just finished designing the Raspberry Pi camera holder that attaches to the Z axis of my printer.

Somebody will have to correct me, but I think OnShape's freeware has some pretty lax design ownership rules. Nearly public ownership if I recall.

I believe that's accurate. If I cared about retaining rights to these designs, I'd pay for Standard. R/C stuff seems like it'd be a great platform for 3D printing.

My god, that would've been a godsend when I was into R/C cars. Everytime I'd use my car, it was usually followed up with a call to Tower Hobbies for replacement parts.

I gave in and bought a BLTouch auto bed leveler. I'll have to print out the bracket that holds it before I can install it, and I'll need a few extra screws, but this should help. Instructions for install and config are pretty ****, but thankfully a few people created YT videos for it.

The tolerances are so tight that I'm going to omit the back case of the Pi camera holder. I'm printing some test prints to see if switching from inner wall first to outer wall first corrects this, but I think I need to work on scaling my CAD designs in onshape before slicing and printing. At any rate, here's the mounted Pi camera holder:

That red device is a BLTouch that I installed last week, for automatic bed leveling. So far, does pretty well, but there are some oddball routines you have to follow. I can't run the probing while the extruder is at full temp, because the interference from the heater throws off some sensor, and I get thermal runaway errors on the printer. So I have to add code to my starting g-code telling the printer to heat up the bed to temp, but leave the hot end cold until probing has been completed. It works, but is still annoying.

Next up is the tool tray and Raspberry Pi holder, which will probably take the entire day to print. I'm hoping to get timelapse working on my OctoPrint, because I'd love to capture timelapses of my prints.

The Pi camera sits a little high for my fixed mount, so I redesigned it to articulate up and down. Printing now.



Bought an LED lamp, so I should be able to get some good timelapses finally.

Exactly. I am proud of the design, though. Only had to borrow somebody else's Pens logo because I didn't want to spend the time creating it from scratch. The 5AF logo is all me.

I'm printing something right now that should make for a better example gif.
