@tifosi77: Decided to print this since I'm seeing Alien: Romulus next week, and thought you'd like it. It turned out **** amazing. My wife hates it, so naturally I want to display it somewhere that she'll see it every single day. This was 11 plates in total, and probably around 55 hours of print time.

And of course, with a banana for scale.

And here's the timelapse, with appropriate background music.

Excellent.
I've always favored the original design, with the carapace over the head, vs any of the 'evolutions' over the years. Alien: Isolation added the dogleg kink in the lower limbs, since it was going to be full-screen for much of the game (you only see the Xeno's knees and feet like twice in the first movie)
And I appreciate the banana for scale. Very helpful.
I've had one of these

since my very first day on the job when I worked at 20th C Fox; literally found it in a drawer in my desk. It is pewter and has a nice low pedestal base, but, alas, it is only about 3/4 of a banana high.

I googled your image… that’s pretty cool. I’ve actually wanted to get a Xenomorph tattoo wrapped around my leg, but never got around to it. Had the design basically drawn out and everything.

Thank you, sir. And yes, it appears as though somebody has already designed one of those: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5461597

Another Halloween print. I painted each cat so that they resembled each of our own.

@NTP66 I noticed they are running a sale for Black Friday and might look at upgrading what I have.

Any idea what the difference is between the X1C and the X1C combo? Guessing it's just extra filament, or is it the extra carrier on top to carry the multiple spindles of filament?

My honest opinion? The P1S Combo is your best bang for your buck. The only features it lack are lidar (seems to be overrated anyway), a heated chamber (not a huge difference unless you only print ABS, ASA, etc., which the P1S can also do), a big, color touch screen, and a higher fps webcam. If that's worth $400+ to you, then there you go.iamjs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 1:56 pm NTP66 I noticed they are running a sale for Black Friday and might look at upgrading what I have.

Any of the printers listed that say "Combo" are basically just the printer in question with a single AMS unit. The AMS is a must-have, IMO (I have two, may buy another). Being able to do both multi-color prints and have automatic rollover if a spool runs out (must be the same type/color) is huge.
I will caution that if you go to Bambu, make sure that you're only using filament that has plastic spools. Cardboard spools are a **** nightmare in the AMS at times, and not worth it. Bambu filament is pricey and shipping can be slow (3-7 days), but it's awesome quality and you get some nice features with it. eSUN also has plastic spools, from what I hear, and is also good quality.

I've been mostly running the ELEGOO filament that you have recommended, which seems to be on plastic spools. The only cardboard spool that I have in my stash is the original spool that came with the one that I snagged off of MAC bids and maybe that silver PLA silk filament that is barely used.
If I pull the trigger on this, which I probably will by the weekend, I'll probably relist my original one on Marketplace for cheap.

Ohh, ELEGOO has plastic spools now? All of the stuff I've bought from them has been cardboard spools. I just checked out the listing on Amazon - nice. Still lacking some of the colors you can get on cardboard spools, but this is a welcome change.

Let me ask this: would it be easier to buy something plastic to throw inside of those spools or is it something with the cardboard spools themselves?

You can print PLA adapters, but IME they are trash. Most of the ELEGOO cardboard spools worked fine in my AMS, but others gave me hell. Nothing but AMS assist overload errors, etc. I actually build a HomeAssistant server so that I can create some automation to look for those errors and automatically resume if they are thrown, since that fixed it most of the time.
The best option for me was to simply rip off the sides of the cardboard and load it directly onto an empty Bambu plastic spool. Super easy, and worked well. Here’s a video demonstrating how to do it:

I was repositioning my 12’ skeleton, a favorite of @dodint, today when the male connector in one of the arms snapped. Not wanting to spend another $20 on a replacement part, I decided to give it a go myself. Went to design one in CAD when I saw that somebody beat me to it.
Printed in Bambu PETG - which actually turned out flawless with no tuning - and I think it turned out great. There’s more meat to the piece, and the tabs are bolted to the base using four M3x8 screws.
