If you have Netflix, check out the doc 'The Greatest Night in Pop'. It's about how We Are the World was made and it's a great look at how Quincy and Michael Jackson got all of the talent together and the night Quincy constructed everything about that song.

I loved the Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles blind leading the blind moment.

I never knew what a legend Lionel Richie was in terms of herding the cats to pull the whole thing off.

"No, Stevie Wonder, we are not going to sing verses of this song in Swahili," was one of my favorite anecdotes. Bob Geldof with the strong 'akshually...' to save the day.

Yep, back in 2019. An incredibly kind, sweet man. This sucks.

RIP Kitanofuji Katsuaki (real name Takezawa Katsuaki), the 52nd yokozuna. Kitanofuji entered sumo in in January 1957 at the age of just 14. He made the top division in 1965 and was promoted to yokozuna in 1970. He won a total of 10 top-division titles. After retirement, Kitanofuji took over the Kokonoe sumo stable and was the coach for both Chiyonofuji (the 58th yokozuna) and Hokutoumi (the 61st yokozuna). Kitanofuji retired early from the Sumo Association before the mandatory retirement age of 65, but he stayed involved in sumo by serving for decades as the color commentator on NHK sumo broadcasts. It was announced today that Kitanofuji died on November 12, 2024, at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 82 years old, and was the third-oldest yokozuna of all time at his passing.

Wasn't there just a Grand Tournament? Was he in attendance?

There's a packaged curry that bears his name, in case you're interested in celebrating his life.

There's a tournament ongoing, which started on the 10th. I think a prerecorded video from Kitanofuji was played on day 1, and I would imagine that he probably said something along the lines that he was hoping to be back soon, but, alas, that's won't happen.
