They look fine, hell, compared to the WA houses for the same price they're damn near luxurious. Whats the deal? Why the f*** shouldn't I buy an $80k 2 bed 1 bath brick house near pittsburgh???
Just doing a max 100K for allegheny county, the neighborhoods with the clusters are the usual culprits (Homestead, Hazelwood, McKeesport, Wilkinsburg).

The old white flight neighborhoods that have been abandoned / neglected for decades. Honestly, I think you could find a place that's plenty livable, close to commercial districts (homestead/hazelwood, uptown), but you're just going to be looking homes that are falling apart. You would have to just be looking to make sure there are no structural / foundation issues and assume that you are gutting most of the living space.

The 620 Boggs place is in a decent area (back part of Mt Washington, I used to live up the street from it), but you'd probably have to put double what you paid into making that place even marginally liveable.

The house my parents bought in 1987 in O'Hara TWP was back on the market in 2023, being sold by the people that they sold it to in 1990. It sold for $220K in August 1990 and sold for $612K in May 2023. Pretty, pretty nice rate of return on that house.

It's...odd going through real estate pictures of house you lived in, but they really updated it nicely.

Yeah, that's basically what is available around the Seattle area, but that house would be 250k or more with the selling point being that you can tear it down and start over. I wasn't setting the price limit at 100k, just wondering why there are so many alleged bargains around there.

also, wtf is with you people's fireplaces being walled up

Walling up the fireplace means you don't have to insure it.

I think trying to normalize housing comps and looking at like-for-like as much as is possible Seattle carries around a 2.2-2.5x multiplier over PGH.

The Q isn't why it PGH so cheap, it's why is SEA so expensive.

Before we moved to SF we were planning on moving to SEA. Like to the point where we had contacted local Realtors and were neighborhood shopping. Housing costs in SEA compared to LA were close enough that other expenses were factoring into our planning much more.

With the rate that new skyscrapers are going up here, I'm surprised it hasn't at least leveled off, but nope. None of it is housing. Landlords are allowed to put as much pressure on as people can handle, and since there are a ton of tech jobs, they basically priced out nearly everyone else.

My wife’s aunt’s (RIP) house just went under contingency in Newport Beach for $3m. In that neighborhood, that price is saying “we are going to tear this down and rebuild”

I'd like to see him actually try to cut something with that thing, because the blade looks as floppy as a cooked noodle.

I can hear the Forged in Fire guy saying, "It will not keel."

Got my tetanus booster yesterday with my physical. Today I have the headache/fatigue with a sore arm. Ugh. I can't remember ever having a side effect from this one in the past, but considering I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday I doubt I'd remember a headache 11 years ago.

I passed 100k karma on Reddit and didn’t even get one of those “…and all I got was this shirt” shirts.

My account is almost 14 years old and I'm under 16k. Much of that karma I'm pretty sure was a rage comic I made back in the late 2000s

I was in Houston last week, while I was there I had a project go south in a hurry. I came home on Friday, went to WIlliamsport to see my parents for the weekend, had Monday at home and went back to Houston on Tuesday.

I pretty much just want to sit on my ass and watch sports till my eyes bleed this weekend. Maybe drink a bit and take a nap but mostly watch sports.

And probably worry about my stupid project.

Apparently Facilities shut off the water to our building (95% dorms, 5% our offices) for *reasons* (nothing actually explained).

Yeah, didn't get the email or alert that was happening til 8:30. Good **** job FM.
