Yeah, that's like the length of the full stage musical, including the intermission. Wild.
Agreed. They really need to start adding intermissions to these stupidly long movies. Also, I've always found Wicked's second act to be incredibly lacking. The most memorable songs are in Act 1. Act 2 does have For Good, which might be the best song in the musical but you have to go through a lot of boring **** to get there. It looks like Defying Gravity will be the climax of the film, just as it's the final song before the intermission in the musical. That's right right call but gives the film the same problem as the musical: Act 2 is a slog.

I know the answer to this is "no, 'cause they're expensive as **** to make," but, enough of the animated to live-action trend -- give me live-action to animated, baby.
I'm all for animated movies, so I'm on board with this. This is also why I have a feeling that the live action Moana is going to be bad (I know, no LMM, nocera).

That's a bonkers runtime for Part 1 of a god damn musical.

It's just incredibly lazy and a clear money grab. That How to Train Your Dragon trailer feels like it's going to be a shot for shot remake of the animated movie. For the most part, these live action adaptations have shown that they aren't really interested in saying something new and they're happy to just recreate moments from the animated movies but with real people (or in some cases, slightly more realistic looking animation). So I would ask "what's the point?" but we all know what it is. Money.

You're not wrong. And while I'll watch the movie, this is why I will download it for free instead of seeing it in a theater.

a 2:40 runtime for a part 1 when the entire stage show is 2.5 hours is a war crime

All movies should be at 2 hours or less unless they have a good reason to be longer but for some reason it seems like most movies these days are more than 2 hours

I would love long run times in the theater if there was intermission. I would spend twice as much at the concessions if i knew i could get a bathroom break

So I commenced the Albert Brooks film fest the other night with Mother, from 1996. It was really good, especially if you have a difficult relationship with your mother. Some odd transitions aside, it's a great film and really funny. Brooks stars as a divorced sci-fi writer who moves back in with his mother (Debbie Reynolds) as an experiment to see why he has poor relationships with women. And it's a lean 100 minutes long, with not much fat to cut.

My wife still wants to see Wicked. She was super pumped about it, but then when she found out it was split into two and also 2hrs and 40 minutes for just part 1 she became less enthused. Still wants to go though.

Just make sure you schedule a bathroom break. I suggest around Something Bad or Dancing through Life. Those songs suck.

I think we are going on Thanksgiving Day. Surely it will be better than the Giants-Cowboys game.

What wouldn't be better than Giants Cowboys game? I didn't realize it was that bad, holy cow. Sounds like I have time to pull the Christmas decorations downstairs.

She goes to the movies to see all the crazy horror movies and other things I want to see so I think I can be nice and go to the one movie she's wanted to see outside of when we saw Barbie last year. Plus I enjoy going to the theater and eating popcorn.

Hopefully you don't get a bunch of drama kids in there singing along.

re: How to train your dragon and live action remakes...

They need to start making some live action remakes, but rated R. Like others have already said, if it's shot for shot remake and nothing new... pass. Throw some blood, guts, and sex in there with a similar story? That'd be something worth watching, imo.

It wouldn’t make any sense from the company because it would make much less money but that’s the only way I’d see a movie like that lol

Me. Definitely me. I would **** love an R-rated HTTYD movie.

Me.

Vikings and dragons at war with one another, and then an unlikely friendship between a dragon and viking end the war... that'd be dope as a rated R movie.

I mean yeah that sounds great. So just make an original movie about vikings and dragons at war and don't call it How to Train Your Dragon. Because that would be weird.

They wrote some original material for the movie, and I think they resurrected a couple cut songs as well. You know, because they were worried about padding the runtime when they divided it into two parts.
