Now good coaching would go all out on the block here.
They did. Better shot there than a return

Didn't think so hitting the kicking leg and not the plant leg. Maybe because of the force they can justify it.

Supposed to be hitting the Plant leg for it to be a personal foul. I mean it doesn’t matter we lose regardless, but just inept officiating.

Can’t wait for every idiot host on Da Fan to remind us how great of a coach Tomlin is tomorrow.

Options are:

1) first down essentially ends it, no chance of possession

Or

2) first down essentially ends it, 20% chance of possession on onside kick

Someone run the numbers for Mike

Tying the browns says more about your team than any loss could.

Why wouldn’t you onside it? Your defense gave up 42 **** points.
Have you seen Boswell try an onside?

Besides, no more running starts for the coverage team, so it'd be really hard for them to even get the ten yards. I don't think we'll many onside kicks anymore, but we might get the odd Texas leaguer.

Boswell’s limp onside kicks have more chance of being recovered than the defense getting a 3 and out.

Also, it's not often you have 39 completions for 450 passing yards, 3 TDS and 1 rushing TD, two receivers over 100 yards, 33 first downs.... in a home loss.

On the play in question, KC lined up to cover an onside kick all out with one guy deep. Sorta bloop it over the hands guys so the ball lands around their 30 or so (hopefully with some bounce) and just create a sprint to the live ball. I don't necessarily think it would work, but the new kickoff lineup rules have gutted the probability of the kicking team recovering a normal onside kick. (Which was around 1-in-5 before this year.)

Interestingly, the 'surprise onside', a la Superb Owl XXX, is successful more often than not.

Didn't he mess that up against the Jags in the playoff game last year too? Though, with 3 timeouts left, the percentage play is to play field position and trust the defense. Unfortunately, this Steelers defense can't be trusted. Have they ever heard of covering a tight end?

I don't think the percentage play at all there is to kick it deep

And in your world this maneuever is called a "Texas leaguer"?

Also even assuming the 20% goes down, even by half to 10%, why wouldn't you try it?

This is what is called an 'analogy'. 'Texas leaguer' is a baseball term for a pop fly that drops between the infield and outfield, and accurately describes the type of kick I'm talking about.
Also even assuming the 20% goes down, even by half to 10%, why wouldn't you try it?
Boswell's success rate in the NFL is 0%, including one attempt that travelled all of 4".
