I can barely beat Stockfish level 1 when playing the computer on lichess, so I think the answer to "Am I a chess player?" would have to be "no." :(

I have recently become very fond of watching chess videos on YouTube.

Agadmator I've been watching for a couple weeks. MatoJelic I hadn't run across yet. Thanks; I just subscribed.

I’m about .500 against a 500 level bot so I’m bad. Aga is entertaining to watch but it does very little to improve your game IMO.

I’ve been getting into finegold and his classes at the chess school in St. Louis. Maurice Ashley has some good strategy/puzzle lectures as well that will make you better.

John Bartholomew and Ginger GM (Simon Williams) are fun guys to follow on youtube

I've watched a little kingscrusher and chess coach andrus?

Nakamura is on and the chess brahs but they aren't really my style. I do enjoy Danny Rench? on chess.com in addition to all those mentioned above by other users here

I used an app on my mobile where you could choose the elo of your opponent. (And the app estimated your elo)

I think had around 13-1400 something. Was destroyed by the 2000 elo computer if I remember it correctly ;)

I'm bad at it, as I lack patience.

I play almost daily on chess.com. Usually it's during my poop breaks so I have to play blitz games, and blitz games aren't really for making you better, just for fun. I'd say 80% of the games that I lose are because I see a move and I think "this could either be genius or really dumb..." and most of the time it's really dumb because I don't have the time to calculate it all out.

Like others have said, agadmator is good. I really like ginger gm. His youtube is a nice mix of watching him play blitz where he's just being goofy, watching him play long games where he walks you through his thoughts and tactics that he's utilizing while he's playing (he does this in blitz too, but obviously can't fully explain everything), and then he also does analysis of neat games from time to time. Some are his games, most aren't.

I'm not sure I'd be able to. I know there's a chess club at the local library, and I've always considered stopping in and checking it out, but I feel like I'd be terrible on an actual board unless I have pictures taped to the top of pieces of what they are and I stand directly looking down on the top of the board.

There is something delightfully romantic about those chess boards in parks where you sit down with a random stranger and play

I can play. Used to play all the time in my late teens and got to a point where I was pretty close to unbeatable among my peers at my peak...when I lived in NY metro, I would play the old black guys at the library or in the park...I learned a lot of trash talk, but we would also talk about old blues artists that we liked haha I think it was during a game of chess I learned who Robert Johnson was, in fact.

Then I didn't play for a while until a couple months ago when a coworker took up an interest in it...we played a handful of games. I can see I am not one tenth the player I was...I also am much worse on the computer than with a real board for no obvious reason...

I had an app a little while ago called Bad Chess, I think. It mixed up the pieces you start with, so the whole game is chaos. Fun.

That stare that Carlsen gave after Fabi moved his rook to D8. Oh man. What a good game.
