Had A Comfort Service come out to do routine checkup on my 22+ year old furnace unit.

Apparently the previous owner didn't have it serviced since 2018. I can see the dollar signs flashing everywhere.

My water heater is making an occasional pinging noise that it doesn't normally make. It's 11 years old which is actually beyond expected lifespan.

My f-i-l helped me put it in, he'd argue but really he's not able to assist with it anymore. I'd try to do it myself but do I want to mess around with gas? No I do not.

$2200 installed for a new one.

Dude was great. Has done a bunch of work in the neighborhood so he knows how things work here.

The news i got wasn't so much. AC must've leaked at some point between 2018 and now, and the pressures are way low.

Plus side, if I get a heat pump during the replacement I'm going to save myself a ton of money on my electric bill in the winters.

That's uh, kind of insane honestly. I've done a gas HWT myself in like an hour. They cost about $600. Just shut the gas off and disconnect. As long as it's the same size-ish everything will bolt right up

He probably has a power vented model, which costs considerably more than $600.

I replaced my water heater in 2018. Old one busted, called Mr. Water Heater. They came out next day. I think it was about $900 parts & labor.

Call Mr. Water Heater!

Honestly they were great. I'll recommend them any day.

Saw water coming out of the bottom of our fridge… never good.

Pulled it out and the copper tube from the sink to the fridge for the ice maker sprung a leak. Took a look at the tube, and it was in rough shape. Looked like it had sprung a leak or two in the past, but they just patched it with JB weld.

Gonna replace the whole line. Happy Saturday.

I replaced our 20 year old tank during the pandemic. $350 installed. I was initially looking into tankless, but that was too cheap to pass up.

Decided to pay up and look at Sherwin Williams paint for my daughter’s bedroom. Pricey, but everything in reading says that it’s well worth it. Gonna need to sand down all of the animals I painted in her mural, and then use tinted primer as the base. Two gallons of Emerald for two coats, and hopefully that’ll be it. That’s how I’ll be spending my Thanksgiving weekend.

I have a buddy from college who does all the major remodeling work at our house. He only uses Sherwin Williams.

I've used Sherwin Williams Emerald for everything here - matte interior, satin and gloss exterior. Great quality, thick paint - consistency is closer to pudding than water. Goes on easy and looks great. As to cost, I try to plan ahead and buy during their 40% off sales.

Yeah, I can’t do much about the timing. The guy at the store looked up future sales and their buy one get one 50% off is better than the upcoming 25% off right now. So I’ll grab the paint on the 22nd.

If you know literally any contractor that has an account there they'll let you run it through their account usually comes out to about 40% or more off. We painted our entire house with SW. Spent like $1800 but it was worth it. Loxon primer, super paint ceilings, I think we used Cashmere on the walls to try and save a little cost, and emerald urethane on the trim. I will not use anything else for important/big jobs.

Here’s a weird one: got a new washer on Monday. Every time we run it, the fridge water line makes a clicking noise when water is going to the washer. During the rinse cycle, small increments of water are added every minute or so, and each time there’s a click from the fridge.

I don’t know any paint contractors, but we’re only talking two gallons here, and the BO50 deal works fine for me. I made the mistake of bringing a sample home, and my daughter likes it more than her first choice, but my wife and I think it’s too dark in her room, lol. Gonna let her see the paint for the next week, and worst case, ask them to tint it one shade lighter.

We have fruit flies/fungus gnat infestation. Like hundreds of them. We have traps out that fill up in a day or two. Is there anything more I can do for these things? FWIW I think we found the main culprit of what they were feeding on (a potato fell down in our pantry underneath a lot of bags and junk). But we still have tons of these F'ers

Apple cider traps work really well on fruit flies.
