8U is a trench battle. You’re in the **** every second you are at the rink. Fighting for your life

10U is actual hockey, shockingly. Kids want to be there. They want to learn. They listen. You can actually run drills and put things in place for games.

First jamboree was a huge success. Won all 4 games and only gave up 6 goals total. Kids were buzzin - gonna be a fun year.

Coaches - if your youth league offers you placement games to make sure you play at the appropriate level for the season, please play them. We are in a “AA” tournament this weekend and are 3-0 with the championship game tomorrow morning. Our goal differential is +28 and we’ve only given up one goal. It’s actually not that much fun whacking a team 12-0 in a 39 minute game

Had an 11:30 roller game last night. Someone brought a fill in goalie. Guy was in the locker room wearing a Minnesota Wild hat and hoodie. His pads were also the same color green, and so was his stick tape. Guy on the team goes "you must be pretty big Wild fan huh?" He goes "no not really." His answer was not sarcastic at all. Goalies truly are a rare breed

lol I can’t make fun of that guy because I’m a little the same. When I was little (like 6) my brother gifted me a Rangers hockey bag and I use it so I get asked a bunch if I’m a Rags fan. I feel like an imbecile saying no I hate the Rags

@meow

How about we found out at puck drop today that they were changing on the fly in our mite tournament. Holy hell that was a plot twist. The other coach told me they didn’t know either but they did it in their last tournament so theyve practice it before.

We gave up 2 goals on bad changes and lost by 3

Full ice? That’s how they do it.

Are you at Harmarville? Our 8U team is there and apparently not doing too well

I didn't have any plans on joining a beer league team but while playing pickup last year, I was recruited to join a C2 team. I Like a lot of people on the team but effort is a problem (some guys taking 2+ minute shifts and not backchecking at all) which annoys the hell out of me because I'm gym-class-hero level of effort all the time.

I'm only mildly skilled with the puck but I'd say I'm probably a C1 player on average just due to my speed and defense so I already feel like I'm not really challenged enough in this league but now someone we have this problem on the team where we have not just 3 full forward lines but 3 full d pairings too. I had asked to move back to defense sometime last year because I got annoyed with how poor of a skater one of our d-men was but now I'm annoyed that we have so many **** people on the team. And we're not even that good even with a thousand roster players

and the most annoying thing is that the captain is probably one of the worst, if not the worst, players in the league too. He's absolutely a C3 player but since he's the captain (and he works at the rink) no one is gonna kick him off the team

I've learned that pickup is a lot more fun than beer league, at least in Charlotte

one of our local rink owners is (likely) going to convert his building to **** pickleball because his wife is into it. ATL only has 7 ice sheets as it is (2 at this rink) but yet youth and adult hockey is booming with all the transplants moving here. the biggest local kids travel program will have nowhere to go. when the Thrashers were here, the NHL did nothing to grow grass roots hockey and now that chicken is coming home to roost.

I haven't played there in years. it was a dump at one point but back in 2016, they got a refresh when they were chosen as a filming location for the film, "I, Tonya". they have 2 sheets, one used to be the Thrashers practice facility until....well, you know. there's a bar upstairs that at one time, had pretty good wings and some of my favorite calamari. I was last there right before Christmas for a Friday afternoon public skate to try to break in a new pair of True skates. didn't really look around though. I skated and left.
if you like Korean BBQ, I highly recommend this place nearby:
https://www.honeypigusa.com/

make sure you get the fried rice made with leftover bits.

I don’t know if dumpy rink calamari is the play when I’ll be in charge of 15 10-year olds.

Maybe I can convince them to do Korean BBQ though

Ball hockey drama.. There was a tourney over in Philly last weekend. Both teams from the same organization made the finals. Instead of playing the game they did a coin flip to decide the champions.. I would not want to waste an entire weekend for it to be decided by a coin flip - regardless of who I am playing

Why not just declare both teams the winners. That's better than a coin flip. Better yet, just play the game and let the teams determine who won.

Ridiculous.
