5AF NFL Survival Pool 2017

Yahoo has a survival pool going this year. I know some of you (shaf) enjoy survivor pools elsewhere but I've never seen one here at 5AF.

If it's a small field size I presume the payout would be $20 to second place and the rest of the pot to the winner. If we get over 10 we can look at third place getting their buy-in back and second getting bumped up.

Configured as follows:

$10 buy in
2 strikes for elimination
Week 13+ requires two picks.
Keep picking through playoffs.
Dues would be sent to my Paypal and paid out when the last entrant qualifies as winner. I don't see a way of collecting dues via Yahoo.

Sounds interesting, I'm in. The rules I'm used to say you cannot pick the same team twice throughout the season. Same rule here?

You may only pick each Pro Football team ONCE during the Contest Period. Once a Pro Football team is selected as your pick in a Round, it cannot be selected as your pick in a subsequent Round.

Every week you pick a team you think won't lose. You can't use that team again the rest of the year. If your team loses it's a strike. Two strikes and you're out.

If the field breaks 10 we'll look at dropping it down to 1 strike elimination which is more traditional.

Last person standing wins.

Anyone that doesn't pay by first pick Sunday deadline is dropped from the pool. Dues can go to dodint via gmail.com by PayPal or if you have something easier for you PM me. You can mail a check if you want, whatever. Just remember when sending dues ($10) to include your 5AF username for accountability.

Just a reminder that Week 1 is upon us. Six people signed up in the thread, five have signed up in the Pool, and five have paid. I 'assume' the remainder is FR who probably didn't see my reply above.

Deadline is 1PM Sunday, but there is a game tonight so if someone wants to burn their Patriots pick really early go for it. In the pool I can't see other people's picks, maybe they go live on Sunday(?). Failure to pick is a strike.

I'm hoping we don't see other's picks until games go live. Otherwise the strategy would be to wait until the last minute to pick to see what everybody else picked first.

That's interesting. Among friends, I'm running an "ATS pool" - one pick per week, pick an underdog to win outright, best record wins the pot at the end of the season...the most popular pick was Oakland in that...

My original pick was Oakland, then I started looking at the line and changed my mind. Atlanta was a much safer pick (HA!)

Yeah. Yahoo should rank them. If there is a weekend where everyone goes out all at the same time (unlikely with two strikes, though more likely when 2 picks are going) we'll figure something out. Split pot or Random.org I guess.

Week 1 is always the toughest since there are so many divisional games, and you really don't know how good teams will be that early in the season. Even though it was the Browns, I was waffling with my Steelers pick (away, divisional game).
