Any sweet breakfast food is pretty much dessert.
And yes, banana bread is more cake/muffin than bread. Definitely more desserty than any other category.

Banana bread is basically cake anyway.

I would say no. I agree that banana bread is akin to a muffin, but I don't consider muffins to be dessert. I've never gone to a restaurant and seen a blueberry muffin on the dessert menu next to the chocolate cake and the crème brûlée, for example. Muffins are more of a breakfast / brunch / snack food.

Yeah I don’t understand the alignment of muffins to dessert. I’ve always considered muffins to be breakfast food.

It's the ingredients, not the delivery method.
Banana bread is more of a breakfast food IMO, but pumpkin bread would be more dessert. Most muffins are breakfast food, but chocolate muffins would be more of a dessert. Cake is definitely a dessert food, but then you have something like a cinnamon coffee crumb cake, which is a breakfast food. Most pastries would be desserts, but a cinnamon roll is, well, just about a perfect breakfast food...especially with coffee.
Hell, a burrito is a dinner item most of the time, but throw bacon, sausage, eggs, and cheese in that little flour blanket and you got yourself a great breakfast.

I would need to know what all the categories are before classifying it.

Banana bread is a chaotic neutral.

Popcorn: what is the preferred outcome: leave it in for long enough that all kernels get popped but some are burnt? Or leave it in so that all are perfectly popped no burn but left with a bunch of wasted unpopped kernels
@litt can’t opine because his microwave is gone and he just has a hole in the wall

I put mine in, set a timer for 2:30, and usually stop it with like 10-15 seconds left depending on the time between pops (I give it like 5 seconds or so). Gets most of the bag right on the edge of burning with only a few actual burnt pieces.
You might be wondering why I don't just set it for 2:15, and the answer is because every bag is different IMO.

No burnt pieces and not many kernels left. There is a magic sweet spot and it's so hard to achieve.
Burnt popcorn sucks.

This is the correct method. Once the time between pops hits the optimal threshold, you cancel the operation. 5 seconds is about the right timeMR25 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 29, 2024 10:10 pm I put mine in, set a timer for 2:30, and usually stop it with like 10-15 seconds left depending on the time between pops (I give it like 5 seconds or so). Microwave popcorn is for savages.
Air poppers are far superior.

I microwave until the pops slow down but before burning sets in. After I eat what popped, I put the remaining unpopped kernels back into the microwave and nuke them again to see if they'll pop. Most do.
I bought a collapsible silicone microwave popper thingy that works quite well. It's one of these:

Stove top in a pot with oil, as Allah intended. Dark but not burned. Half-popped kernels are one of my favorite things in the world.

We bought a popcorn machine for a party a few years ago. I’ll never make it any other way again.
