My HYSA got lowered to 3.85%. Might be time to find a different one with a sign up bonus.

So my parents' estate is closed, only 13 months after my mom passed away. Evidently, that's really fast? I don't have a lot of prior experience and hope to not have this happen again.
We hired my aunt's (my mom's twin) estate attorney and they handled most of it. They didn't have any debt, other than a sizeable Amex bill that my dad used to order **** from Chewy and Amazon (and orders were still coming in a week or two after he passed away in August 2023). My sister paid a partial balance, as she had signing privileges on one of my parents' checking accounts (she lived nearby).
So a year later, Amex is still looking for their money. They've called my wife a couple of times a month, and my mom's younger sister a few times as well - but never my brother, me, or her twin sister. And given my wife's difficult relationship with my parents, that's been pretty comical - i.e. my mom haunting my wife from the grave.
The estate attorney says not to bother to pay Amex, basically telling my sister the legal equivalent of **** 'em. Unreal! I mean, it's more money for me and my siblings, but yikes...

13 months?! Did she have a will or anything? We went through the trouble of creating a trust with a will, etc. so that everything would be smoother and quicker should anything happen to us.

I have no idea why they call who they call and my wife asked them that and they wouldn't answer. I have an Android phone with robust spam call blocking, so they may have tried to call me but

If you send them a letter telling them to cease and desist contacting you unless they provide you proof that the debt is yours, it will all stop.DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:11 am I have no idea why they call who they call and my wife asked them that and they wouldn't answer. When they called your wife, what did they say and what did they ask her? Did they want contract information for anyone, for example?DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 9:11 am I have no idea why they call who they call and my wife asked them that and they wouldn't answer. I'll have to check with her. They call every few weeks or so, and she just hangs up on them once they ask for either one of my parents.Shyster wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 8:59 amWhen they called your wife, what did they say and what did they ask her? Next time, have her say this:
[Parent 1] and [Parent 2] are both deceased, and their estates are represented by legal counsel. Any further calls to this number would violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Do not call me again.

Marcus quickly dropping rates, down to 4.10% APY. The stock market is absolutely frying, though.

Came across this Paul skenes fastball of a quote in the wsj today :
“MicroStrategy found a way to outperform bitcoin,” Michael Saylor, the company’s founder and executive chairman, said. “The way that we outperform bitcoin, in essence, is we just lever up bitcoin.”

For anyone who wants to see a likely perfect example of insider trading:

Drone manufacturer that not a damn person in this world has ever heard of. Absurdly low trading volume, hovering around a buck and change for months until it mysteriously starts creeping up around election day, higher after Trump wins, creeping higher and higher on comparatively low volume, and then boom! today it doubles as Shithead Jr. is named to their advisory board.

Yup. This is basically every Congressional trade. One-eyed Rick, whatever his name is, kind of lost his marbles about clear insider trading on some nonsense news channel the other day...

Marcus HYS is now sub 4% for the first time in a while. I moved most of the money I had over there into a CD at 4.5%+ and the rest over to Everbank HYS, which is still pegged at 5%.

I always have 3-4 CDs open at any given time, but have a few maturing soon. Most banks are going to follow suit, and I'm still hesitant to chase rates for a long-term account.

You sure Everbank is still 5%?DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:49 am Marcus HYS is now sub 4% for the first time in a while. I moved most of the money I had over there into a CD at 4.5%+ and the rest over to Everbank HYS, which is still pegged at 5%.
