I'm shocked he even accepted the nomination in that case. You'd have to be pretty freaking dense to not expect that to come out.

The nomination got too old for Gaetz and he lost interest.

Four GOP senators, including Mitch McConnel, said they wouldn't vote for him yesterday so he had no choice but to drop out.

The details surrounding "Trump University" and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) already painted an unflattering picture. We learned last week that Bondi briefly considered joining a multi-state suit against the controversial "school," but the Florida Republican dropped the investigation after the Trump Foundation made a $25,000 contribution towards Bondi's re-election.

He did. He may run to replace himself in the special election to fill the vacancy he created by resigning. It's also possible that he could try to rescind his statement that he would not take a new oath of office in January. I don't know if that is legally binding, and Gaetz was just reelected to that district, so I'm not sure how that works. Can one resign from an elected office before one actually takes that office? Is a statement that one who has been elected to the House does not intend to take office sufficient to create a vacancy in that House seat even though the new term hasn't started yet? Some interesting legal questions.

Gaetz just beat his opponent by 32 points, so the people down in the Florida panhandle obviously like him, and I assume if he wants the job back, he'd easily win a special election to return to the House.

Well done Mr. President, like the first go round, your pick lasted days before a backup was needed.

The Gaetz AG pick is unfortunately out of bounds for the "serious" republicans. Which stinks cause that would have been funny.

Now we just get a rubber stamp Trump sycophant who will be equally terrible but in a different way

To close the loop on the Casey whinging about election results, he conceded yesterday:
U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) on Thursday dropped his bid for reelection, conceding to GOP challenger Dave McCormick, putting an end to one of the most hotly contested and expensive Senate races of the cycle, and an end to the Scranton native’s 18-year career in the Senate.

“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. As the first count of ballots is completed, Pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last,” Casey said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “This race was one of the closest in our Commonwealth’s history, decided by less than a quarter of a point. I am grateful to the thousands of people who worked to make sure every eligible vote cast could be counted, including election officials in all 67 counties.”

The Associated Press called the race for McCormick on Nov. 7, but Casey had refused to concede, citing the large number of ballots still to be counted at the time.

A note about the news source: there is a group of independent journalists operating via grants and some donations. They are not paywalled and seem to be reputable. Our SC edition features experienced journalists from the big newspapers in Charleston, Greenville, and Columbia. No bullshit, no clickbait. Just a handful of stories a day, but they seem to be covered well. Here's their homepage: https://statesnewsroom.com/

RFK -- Denies having eaten a dog despite apparently recommending it to a friend
Noem -- Murdered at least one dog because she's not afraid of tough decisions
Huckabee -- Son killed a dog while a camp counselor, Mike may or may not have intervened to prevent an investigation
Bondi -- Rescued a Hurricane Katrina dog that was not actually orphaned. (And by rescued I mean stole)
