I saw a maybach at the primantis on Washington road tonight. Not sure about the character of a person driving a car worth more than $200k to a place that serves fries on sandwiches

I am blessed to have a recall repair on the Pilot today, side mirrors that come unglued from motorized plate inside the housing and fall off leaving the car mirrorless. I've put it off long enough to get other **** done there, like yet another CVT transmission fluid change (every 20-30K miles) and a brake fluid change.

I replaced the air filters, because those clowns will always give you a quote to replace for hundreds of dollars. It costs about $40 in filters and 20 minutes of my labor, and this time I had my 16 year old change the filters on his car.

Next up, I research battery prices from O'Reilly's. The Pilot is 4 years old with 55K miles on it, so the battery will be going sooner rather than later. O'Reilly has a warning on all of the batteries they sell for this car: professional installation recommended. I've never seen that, but I did notice how difficult it was to get to the battery as it was buried under this plastic fan cowl and then the air filter housing. What a pain in the ass. Unless the price is absurd - not unheard of with a Honda stealership - I'll just have them do it.

Funny you mention that, because I've seen at least two posts online from Pilot owners with mirrors that fell off. On the battery thing, that's kinda nuts. I'd pay them to do it, too. On my TLX-S, the battery is actually in the trunk, so access to it isn't bad at all.

I'm probably just being paranoid, but I keep seeing posts about stolen TLX's in NJ and NY, making me consider an aftermarket alarm. Acura's key fobs don't use rolling codes (stupid decision, IMO), so relay attacks are prevalent. It sounds like going with a Compustar system with secure push to start would basically prevent these modern hacks. I'm good with the pricing, but didn't realize that their T13 key would actually be in addition to my factory fob, not a replacement.

There are so few of these Type-S's made, and even fewer in this color, that I doubt I'd be able to find another should this one get stolen.

Relax. Everyone is too busy stealing Kias with USB cables to have time to steal your Acura.

I actually printed up a sign that I can put in my window that says "This Kia has pushbutton start and can't be stolen like in those TikTok videos. It also has a manual transmission." I use it when parking somewhere that doesn't get a lot of foot traffic.

So, two things. I'm having an IGLA system installed on my car next week, so that'll ease my worries about relay/OBDII attacks. And apparently, I was speeding in Philly recently, as Informed Delivery shows that I'm getting a ticket in the mail. As if I needed another reason to just avoid Philly.

If you are a Sam's club member you might check them for battery prices. A lot of shops do free instalation

Circling back to this, my (older) son has been making noises about getting a car so he can live off campus next year.

Looking at used Tacomas, I'm seeing $25K for a 2017 SR5 with 180K miles, a 2015 base mdoel with 60K? $30K. It's madness. A new one goes for like $36-45K depending on trim. I know Toyotas and Hondas hold their resale value, but that's just ridiculous. That being said, if he takes care of it, it will live long past 300K miles.

We are buying 180 of them for our vehicle fleet in '25. Resale made it a no brainer.

Had IGLA installed in my car yesterday, and somehow 3D printing came up while I was talking to the owner/installer. He brought me back into his shop and showed me that he has a $9k large format 3D printer that he uses to print custom parts for cars (he does audio/video, too). Designs the parts on an app on his iPad, and prints them out. Showed me a bunch of examples, and they were all really nice. Pretty cool to be able to custom design and print something for a customer to make it look OEM.

An old lady hit my wife's car. She parked sideways next to us and then when she backed out she cranked the wheel and ground, what appeared to be on surveillance video, a big black Grand Marquis down front half of the Volt.

I own a polisher and a couple of levels of compounds and figured I should take a crack at it before we turn it into insurance. After a short polishing session and the application of some ceramic wax this is how it turned out:

Pretty happy with it. For a 7 year old car with 90k miles it doesn't look bad. You can still see the two deepest gouges, and with the mirror finish the small ding/dent jumps out if the light catches it just right. But for a daily driver appliance car I think it's good enough that I don't have to turn it in to insurance.

This is the first time I've done any kind of 'repair' polishing, and the first time I've polished a street car as I've only ever practiced on the race car before.

It was a hit and run, all I have is blurry surveillance video.

Hit and Run of property is only a third-class misdemeanor in PA which is pretty lame. Max $500 fine.

Looks good. The reflection from the other car threw me off for a second there, and I was going to be like 'are you blind', lol.

Yeah. That is the overhead lights from above the Volt reflecting off the black car and into the side of the Volt. They're 8ft LED strips, really bright. It got too dark out for me to do an after pic outside.

My wife had to get a rental cause someone rear ended her Crosstrek a few weeks back. (minor damage, still driveable had to wait for parts). They gave her a huge ass Hybrid Jeep Cherokee to drive around. That thing is not fitting in our garage at all

Why are there the sideways handicap spots? Like if all the spots are left/right in orientation to the storefront, why are sometimes handicapped spots situated perpendicular to that? Seems dumb to me

I always assumed it was for van access because people are too dumb to leave that area empty when the spaces are parallel. The vans have platforms that extend out from the side (or rear).

So, TLX's are being stolen left and right on the east coast, hence why I had IGLA installed. One of the wilder stories is that a dude who had his stolen in Philly just saw his stolen car wind up on the news because the people driving got into a shootout with cops.
