Please don't tell me they no longer practice shootouts.

No more shootout practice but they do still play wiffle ball

42 games in and the Pens have 11 regulation wins

I didn't see this posted here or the game thread, but last night was the first win for Columbus in Pittsburgh since November 13, 2015.

More of a “win” than a win

He turns 28 next week.

Last time I watched McDavid play in Pittsburgh, he had a sick penalty shot goal and the Oilers won 7-2.

So there's a chance the Pens could beat the Oilers...count2infinity wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 4:22 pm I didn't see this posted here or the game thread, but last night was the first win for Columbus in Pittsburgh since November 13, 2015.

Pens quarter century team announced tonight. They've been doing two teams of 3 F, 2 D, 1 G for each team.
Gotta think the first is
Crosby, Malkin, X (could see Lemieux or Jagr)
Gonchar, Letang
Fleury
Does the 2nd team go Staal, Kessel, Jagr? Kovalev? Neal is a stretch... Guerin?
D wise, Orpik and... Dumo?
G, probably Murray?

I can't believe I forgot Kunitz already... feels like he just faded into the ether after leaving the team
Would guess he or possibly Dupuis ends up on the 2nd team

This is since 2000 right? So Jagr would only have 1.5 seasons (2000-2001). I don't know if he makes the cut.

Yeah, how would Jagr qualify...?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
I overestimated how long he was on the team. I was 9 when he got traded lol
But it pretty much boiled down to me forgetting Kunitz, and I feel shame

Guentzel has to be there.

I could hear Guentzel over Staal.

Ok the criteria is dumb because it's mid-season of 99-00.
F: Crosby, Malkin, Lemieux
D: Letang, Gonchar
G: Fleury
F: Guentzel, Kunitz, Kovalev/Rust/Kessel
D: Dumoulin, Pettersson/Orpik/Maatta/Martin
G: Murray/Jarry
F: Crosby, Malkin, Lemieux
D: Letang, Gonchar
G: Fleury
F: Guentzel, Kunitz, Kovalev/Rust/Kessel
D: Dumoulin, Pettersson/Orpik/Maatta/Martin
G: Murray/Jarry

Mario makes it because he's Mario even though most of that time was a bit rough aside from his comeback in late 00 into 01.

Agreed, Mikey...
Of the slashers, gimme Rust just because of length of service. Kovalev was only a few years in the time frame, and while Kessel was awesome, he's not a Penguin in my mind. He'll always be a leaf to me (right or wrong, idc)
Orpik. Once again, a core penguin player in that time in my mind.
Murray. Boy have our goalies sucked outside of Fleury. Like, there are some flashes, but consistency has been woof (although "consistent would never be something I'd call Fleury either...
). Murray was a back to back cup winner. He'll get the nod for me.

Yeah, sadly Orpik will probably squeeze into team 2.

It’s hard to say if he belongs in consideration because of how loose the criteria is but if I was picking I’d probably put Horny on there over Rusty, Phil and AK. He has less points as a Pen than those three but I think he brought a significant factor to the team that those three didn’t in terms of his play style
