The thing about Baz Luhrmann is that he sucks.

Harry Potter can be Weird Al, but Spider-Man as Nathan Drake is a bridge too far. Pft

No idea where to best put this, but I thought Downfall: The Case Against Boeing was excellent. The company's despicable behavior went beyond placing profits above safety (after crash treatment of the Indonesian pilot was some pretty racist ****) and the documentary covers a lot of ground, but personal pocket lining through driving Wall Street results instead of good corporate decision making is a primary focus. Muilenburg receiving a golden parachute in excess of $60MM while his ass is kicked to the curb is some ridiculous ****.

I want to watch that....... but not before Mrs Tif's upcoming business trip to Miami, or our weekend getaway to NOLA in April. I'm already aware of a lot of the institutional failings of the company, particularly re the MAX jets. But I'm not sure I'm ready to see them laid out in a narrative fashion the way Morton Thiokol and NASA were skewered in the Challenger documentary.

I want to watch it, but also don't want to watch it in case it makes me worry about flying on any Boeing aircraft...

Don’t worry. They absolutely WERE NOT putting profits over safety.

I mean, I already know that's not true.

3rd Kingsman movie was enjoyable. I did not care for the 2nd and the 1st is great. This was way different than what I was expecting. Sort of alternate history lesson with the Germans, Brits and ruskies. The Rasputin fight scenes were very gnarly.

Review embargo is in place until Monday, but the early reactions to The Batman have been nothing but positive.
Reeves’s The Batman both somehow feels old and new at the same time. The whole concept of a superhero just trying to solve a mystery within the confines of his own story feels so old now that it does play as a new and refreshing concept. The Bruce Wayne we meet here (played by Robert Pattinson, who is great) is a younger Batman than we are used to. (Technically, yes, Christian Bale was younger when he played Batman, but this Bruce is portrayed as younger.) We don’t see Pattinson’s Bruce train to become Batman, he’s just Batman when the movie starts and Batman is without a doubt the main character. (In two of the three Nolan Batman movies, Batman is not in large chunks of those. That is not the case in The Batman.) The Riddler (Paul Dano, dressed like the Zodiac) is killing city officials, leaving clues along the way for Batman to solve. The Riddler is nuts, but he also may be trying to expose something bigger. Watching The Batman is more like watching Se7en or LA Confidential than it is like watching, say, an Avengers movie.

It's wild that Christian Bale was younger than Robert Pattinson when he played Batman.

I think because of the Kong ride at Universal, my kids got us to watch the three most recent Kong-Godzilla "Monsterverse" films.
Completely moronic, but filled with a great cast collecting paychecks. Sort of enjoyable in that I didn't have to pay much attention to them, I guess. The best part is that they are all right around 2 hours long. Succinct. I like that and wish more action films followed suit.

Kong skull island and Zilla vs kong are two very fun movies. The two Zilla movies have their moments, but get caught up taking themselves too seriously

Yeah Skull Island is a ton of fun. I enjoyed it more than PJ’s Kong.

Nightmare Alley is a good movie that could’ve been great if it were 30 minutes shorter.

Redline. It's a 2009 anime that took 7 years to make since it supposedly features over 100,000 hand-drawn frames and no cgi. The plot is w/e. There are a few fun curve balls. But as a visual/aural experience it absolutely delivers and then some, which is what you're there for anyway. Recommended if you're in the mood for something fitting that bill.
