Investing, Stock Market and Retirement Planning Thread
Man, I haven't been paying that close attention to my holdings (I only had like two open calls), some of my crap stocks are crap...p-ier...crappier...it was nice to be right (for now) about GDRX...I went against the chart people on that and bet with my head (which rarely works in this arena)...I'm holding a number of things that depreciated though...and I'm not motivated to do much about it because my medium and long hold things are fine...

Interesting little tidbit for the crypto people.

I don't know anything about these stupid things, I am being tasked with looking at potential regulatory actions and where the agencies could interject themselves. Thus far, what's sticking out is, with the more widespread adoption, is coming more ominous threats from places like the CFPB and the FTC to look for how consumer protection laws apply (essentially, vulnerable people are exposing themselves, similar to all the poor saps that got roped in on fraudulent mortgages, which eventually brought down the housing market. I would still feel extremely uncomfortable holding these assets unless you are just playing with house money. Still smells like a long run pump-and-dump to me. But, what y'all do with your money, i could care less.Stablecoins are not the only potential
trigger, however. Forks, hacks, rug pulls, vampire attacks, and flash loans all have the potential
to surprise, erode trust, and spark fear.10 Thus far, the crypto/DeFi world has been able to withstand
events such as the DAO exploit, the Compound oracle exploit, the SushiSwap vampire
attack, the Polygon hack, and the Solana rug pull. Advocates would point to these as evidence of
the trust-resilient nature of cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance. Perhaps. My hypothesis
is that until recently, most users have been hardcore believers in the technology and thus are both
understanding of the risks and willing to forgive them. As the scope and reach of crypto/DeFi
expands, though, more mainstream users, with regular expectations of safe and sound money,
will dominate and drive reactions. As every financial advisor says, “Past performance is not
indicative of future results.”

NTP - I think I need to start saving some money - dedicated savings - outside of my checking/investments/gambling area. You always have quite a racket going in this arena...I'm trying to accrue as much money as I can in the next 12-18 months for *clears throat* wedding related expenditures *cough* I mean, uh, pornography...I'm going to buy so much pornography. Anyway, I want in on your organized crime syndicate...teach me.

Your best bet is going to be signing up for Doctor of Credit's e-mail newsletter. Every day, there's a post about a new deal - both for what you're trying to do, or something else, like letting people know about big discounts on gift cards, etc. It's pretty damn useful for catching deals.
I haven't done any bank account churning in a while, but the next thing to do would be to look at their full list of bank account bonuses: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-ban ... t-bonuses/. They have other pages on that tab that show which accounts can be funded by a credit card (generally not what you want to do), which ones are hard pulls, etc. It all depends on how much cash you have to float, and the terms of each bonus. I've had some accounts that require $5k to open, but you only have to maintain that balance for 1 month, with the bonus paid out after month 3. Most require you to maintain that balance throughout, and most are "deposit $x dollars within x months, and maintain that balance for 3 months"
You definitely have to read the fine print on each deal on DoC's site - especially when it comes to accepted forms of deposit. I got burned by Citizens Bank last year because one CSR falsely told me that one of my transfers was approved as the deposit, and I later found out that they were wrong, so I didn't get the bonus. Most banks also limit the bonuses, so you can only get one from each bank over a certain number of months or years. That probably works fine for you since this is a shorter term strategy.
I have avoided them, but if you're willing to use direct deposit, it will open up your choices for bonuses - especially if you can setup partial DD's in your work's system, like 50% of your check goes here, and 50% goes there.
Finally - and it sounds stupid - but use a spreadsheet to keep track of it all. It's required, IMO, and will help you not **** something up.

I've started looking deeper at these. Is this as simple (assuming you do this like this) as going here: https://www.discover.com/online-banking ... 1/?TPR=007 (for instance) and opening an account, throwing $15,000 in there, wait for the $150 bonus to appear on my account, and then yank it and close the account? Just a free 1% "interest" payment for what amounts to 10 minutes worth of work...?I echo dodint's hmm...NTP - I think I need to start saving some money - dedicated savings - outside of my checking/investments/gambling area. It really is that easy, yes. Some of them have promo codes that you use (Discover definitely did), but a lot of them didn't.Source of the post I've started looking deeper at these.
