Ha. My dog would eat that little thing.

Tim Burton would direct Johnny Depp in a movie about that dog.

I can’t help but think of this scene any time that phrase is used:

Convinced this guy has parlayed one interesting argument, that probably applied very narrowly, into completely unjustified credibility. That idea/observation that hockey players with early birthdays have an early advantage and that early encouragement is important.

We went Apple picking yesterday, and brought home 19 lbs. of apples - mostly due to my daughter and niece going crazy. Made apple pie today, and I bet I still have 16 lbs. of apples left.

How about them.

This may be one of the best apple pies that I’ve ever had. Even my daughter - who hates apples - loved it.We went Apple picking yesterday, and brought home 19 lbs. of apples - mostly due to my daughter and niece going crazy. Made apple pie today, and I bet I still have 16 lbs. of apples left.

On the subject of apples, why isn't apple brandy (aka applejack or calvados) a bigger thing in this country? It's not like we have any shortage of apples here. The only national-scale producer is Laird's, but that crap is a blended product that is mostly neutral gain spirit (that is, basically applejack-flavored vodka). Bourbon couldn't be hotter right now, and applejack has just about the same heritage in this country as bourbon does.
Randomness Dos
It actually has more heritage and has been around longer iirc. And Lincoln used to sell it when he owned a bar in Illinois.

What's the 'Pappy' of applejack? Bourbon can technically be made anywhere in the US, but people associate it almost exclusively with Kentucky; the Bourbon Trail has nearly 4x as many distilleries than when it launched 25 years ago. "Wine Country" is a (glorious) thing; where does one do this with applejack producers, what's "applejack country"?
The signature spirit of the US should unquestionably be rum. At one point in the transitional period from colonies to republic we were the world's leading producer and exporter of the spirit. For reasons good and awful, it's central to the DNA of the country.

I have an old book on the history of Applejack with it’s beginnings in New Jersey in my agricultural library.
Interesting stuff.
Interesting stuff.

That confirms my thought that New Jersey was the nexus of early applejack production. Jersey today doesn't exactly have the same allure as the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
I see Laird's is trying to do more interesting spirits, including bonded and single-barrel options. I've never seen any of those in stores, though. Laird's blended product was supposedly developed as a lighter alternative when people decades ago were moving away from "brown spirits" toward stuff like vodka. That trend has completely reversed, so it really ticks me off that that product is pretty much the only one you can find anywhere.
Basically, Shyster wants more booze.

Negative, was gone for the weekend, but did get to make another call to the police when he showed up out of nowhere and reenacted the leo quaalude scene from wolf on wall street and just stared and pointed at us on the porch. Never seen a human being that screwed up. Did some digging and he appears to be living in apartments around the street from us that have heroin problems. Contacted neighbors so everyone is aware. Have not seen anything from the police yet, so I have resorted to spying from inside as he walks by and am just waiting for an open container so I can call 911.Did you nunchuck litterbugs ass yet, @eddy?
