Thinking about Keller possibly establishing himself made me want to take a look at next year's roster construction. Here is how the current roster could roll into 2022 with some arbitration raises, and assuming that they don't pick up Polanco's option:
C Stallings Arb2 2500
1B Moran Arb2 4000
2B Frazier Arb3 6000
SS Newman Arb1 1200
3B Hayes PreArb 600
OF Reynolds Arb1 2000
OF Alford PreArb 600
OF
BN Gonzalez Arb3 1225
BN Perez Arb1 800
BN Evans PreArb 600
BN
BN
SP Kuhl Arb3 3750
SP Keller PreArb 600
SP Brault Arb2 4000
SP Brubaker PreArb 600
SP
RP RichRod Arb2 3000
RP Crick Arb2 1500
RP Bednar PreArb 600
RP Stratton Arb2 1700
RP Oviedo PreArb 600
RP Underwood PreArb 600
RP
RP Holmes PreArb 600
Total 37075
I would consider all of the arb 3 guys to be potential non-tenders or dealt before 2022, so we could be talking 20,000,000 payroll in 2022. Could the payroll get that low, yes, do I think they will be in that range, not likely. I guess this just goes to say, that they've put themselves in a weird spot. They are playing at about ~55mm under their projected long term salary range (based on what they put in their financial projections). The current roster is projected to continue shedding payroll through probably 2023 (guys like Reynolds and Newman are also likely to be cut before decent arb2 pay days).
I think the ideal scenario is for Frazie, Kuhl, RichRod & Brault to all make themselves marketable at the deadline, so the players that cost something but are barely above their pre-arb counterpart are gone. Just tank again in 2022, and hopefully have something in place by then to start adding to. Even just being a hypothetical spending organization, I don't see anything to build around right now heading into 2022.

I liked what I saw from Evans last year. I think he might be decent.

Cahill was pitching well today. And gets pulled after 82 pitches. I don't understand it

It's probably an April thing. The next guy got shelled though and now it's a loss.

Glasnow is turning into something like "take all the lol @ this guy getting good after leaving pittsburgh" instances and multiplying by 30 and pouring gas on it and lighting it on fire. Its like the final boss of the pain of screwing up all these prospectsLol at the Tyler glasnow line tonight
