The Saxon Tales books by Cornwell (that the show is based on) are excellent.

I had no idea that WQED co-produced this and the pilot was shot in Pittsburgh.
My daughter loves this show....a couple of the OG cast members sent her a video message earlier in the quarantine. They seem like nice peeps.

Finished watching The Newsroom last night. I ended up liking it way better than I thought that I would. Entertaining and well written. I could have done without the Jim/Maggie storyline for the entirety of the show.

'The Wonder Years': Lee Daniels Shares First Look at New Cast

Image

The Wonder Years is getting the reboot treatment at ABC, and filmmaker Lee Daniels has shared the first look at the new cast. The upcoming series, which received a pilot order from the network, will star Elisha “EJ” Williams as Dean Williams, taking over for Fred Savage, who played the central character, Kevin Arnold, in the original run.

Rounding out the rest of the Williams family is Dulé Hill as Bill, the patriarch who is a music professor by day and a funk musician by night, Saycon Sengbloh as his perceptive and good-humored wife, Lillian, with Laura Kariuki as Kim, Dean’s confident and popular teenage sister.

The Arnolds never looked that happy or put together. That show had some real grit to it. I have doubts it can be reproduced in the modern Chuck Lorre network TV landscape.

I recall watching it when I was a kid, but couldn’t tell you much more than I know Fred Savage was in it and there was a girl named Winnie or some ****.

IMO, they should have set this in the 80s/90s. I watched the OG series when I was a kid and enjoyed seeing what life was like (in a sanitized way) when my parents grew up. My parents enjoyed it for the nostalgia of their youth. A new adaptation set in the 60s misses out on both of those. That's not saying the show will be bad, but the only people who will get that wistful experience are now 60+ years old.

Yeah but setting a show with those characters in the 60s will allow them to get mega woke points every episode.

Yes, it is. It's also explained in the Expanse books where the name comes from.

I'm being dense, but the Expanse books or Don Quixote? Because I know the later.

No problem. :)

Like I said it was me being dense. I had to read Don Quixote for a class in college. Not the most enthralling read.

I’m almost finished S03 of The Wire, and am unable to say which show I like better between this and The Shield. Both are just so good.

Well when you watch Breaking Bad, you won't have that debate.

Season 4 should clear this up

...but season 5 will open the contest back up

Is the show still enjoyable if I know some of the major spoilers? Facebook is the reason I never watched BB and GOT.

Yes.While spoilers suck, Breaking Bad is less about the turns in the story and more about the telling of the story, if that makes sense.

Yeah, BB is a wild ride. The journey is as fun as the destination, so I’d still suggest it.

The Wire and BB are my top 2. But since the purpose of televised entertainment is to...entertain, I gotta go with the show that doesn’t make me weep for humanity. BB gets the top spot.
