So, you believe there are 31 #1 d-men in the league...? I'm not really sure how you're gonna come at this one...This is...an answer.Probably. But that's never the question that should be asked. It's about talent. There aren't 31 #1 d-men in the league...are there 30 rw’s better than rust?1LW - 1C - 2RW
3LW - AHLer - 2/3RW
4LW - 4C - 4RW
13F - AHLer - 4RW
Wee-woo, wee-woo...
What you are as a player doesn't change just because the ebb and flow of talent depth in the league...being the 7th best goalie in the world in 1965 in a hell of a lot different than the 7th best in 1981...the former could be a HOFer, the latter is replacement level...

I mean, Stephane Da Costa has more talent than Rust too...but there's a level of functionality to it...does Rust have a greater positive impact on the game than Kapanen? I think so. Is Kapanen's best better than Rust's best? No question. But it's like the old Marc-Andre Fleury thing...Fleury may have one of the best tool sets in the league at any given moment, but it's about bringing that top end talent to the forefront consistently that matters...In that case. Kapanen has more talent than Rust. Now what?Probably. But that's never the question that should be asked. It's about talent. There aren't 31 #1 d-men in the league...are there 30 rw’s better than rust?1LW - 1C - 2RW

I'm not sure there was a goalie in the league that could have done what Fleury in game 5 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final. It may be the best goaltending performance I have ever seen...does that make him better than Henrik Lundqivst? Or Carey Price? No, those are always bringing a high level of play...
That's why McDavid is where he is and Evgeni Malkin is where he is...

Well for starters your list in the other post is weird and gross. Nobody is taking Hoffman over Rust - even ignoring the gap in character. So, you believe there are 31 #1 d-men in the league...? But yeah, ok. I don’t mind the way you calculate #1. But then there would never be 31 1Rws or 1D. Which isn’t my favorite way to look at it. But on the other hand, we won the cup without a 1D in 17 even though Dumo was our 1D. But he’s not a 1D.
...I have a hankering to say 1D or 1C means something more sacred than 1RW though. But I think we’re good here.
Except your list. Your list is bad.

You assume a gap in character because of some weird **** his wife did...fine. As a hockey player - which was the question - he's definitely better than Rust. I mean, that kind of shot is just such an elite level trait that you can't pass it up in a 1 to 1 match. It's too much. I left guys like Bjorkstrand in the possibly category because he's real just a shooter...but Hoffman can help in transition, he can beat players 1 on 1, so that's the difference.
Well for starters your list in the other post is weird and gross. Nobody is taking Hoffman over Rust - even ignoring the gap in character.

Except your list. Your list is bad.
You can easily find players that do what Rust did his whole career accept the last, like, 70 games playing with HOFers...Tyler Kennedy was a 4th round pick, Tanev wasn't even drafted...you can find players whose best attribute is skating, there are factories that produce them. In fact, the league became so flush with them, that league quality actually dipped for a time last decade...
"Never"...? I don't know how you got there.
1 D and 1 C is definitely more valuable than 1 RW...wingers are the least valuable players out there, they do the least, they skate the least, they have the least area to cover...
If my list is bad, that means the majority of it is bad I presume...meaning, this group thinks Bryan Rust is, what, a top 15 RW in the NHL...? That's putting a lot of weight on one non-full season for me...and it's not even like it jives with the talent level...
I can't even imagine what names we're taking off the definite list to stick Bryan Rust, Bryan Rust in there...

Unless Sid goes crazy there is no way this lineup is scoring 4 goals in basically half a game.
