I know there was some talk about the NES Lego set in here late last year/earlier this year. Well my wife and I took the plunge and got it this past weekend and put it together. We had to wait in line at Ross Park Mall to get into the Lego store on Saturday, but it was worth the wait.

I know it's expensive ($229), but it's worth every penny and the details are incredible. It legit looks like a real Nintendo and old CRT Tv. Spring loaded cartridge slot and everything. Crank on the tv to move Mario throughout the board as the screen rotates.

It took us about 8 1/2 hours of active building to get it all together. Honestly my wife could have probably shaved an hour off the build time if she was doing it herself and I wasn't slowing her down.

Put the pics below in a spoiler cause I wasn't sure how big they would show up.

F U skullman! Now I'm tempted to go out and get one. Unfortunately my wife would kill me if I did.

Seriously though, that is awesome. That detail and seeing the progress was awesome.

Did a playthrough of the original Zelda for it's 35th birthday this weekend. I still love that game so much.

So much tech porn in this thread last page. Very nice builds!

I am jealous!

It's amazing how far Lego sets have come. I remember getting the classic space sets as a kid, and some of the largest sets were 200 pieces. Now, that's not even an entry level set.

VLB I'm sort of fetishistically obsessing over how clean and organized your cable/wire runs are. I did a fairly decent job with my last build (nigh on ten years ago...), but damn dude. There's like absolutely no obstruction to your airflow at all. :thumb:

The newest Millennium Falcon set is 7,500 pieces.

The only big set I'd actually be willing to devote the time to building is the Saturn V, and I think that's around 2k pieces.

That’s the way they make the cases nowadays. Little holes and slots to put things where they go. The SSD cuts out a cable to the power supply too. It has three things plugged in (cpu power, 24 pin, and the gpu power)

I love the look of a clean case, and that one is no exception. Mine's pretty clean, except for the excess cables from the PSU.

No rgb, brown fan boomer build.

"I thought he was gross, but then I saw his RGB case fans, and I knew I had to screw his socks off" said no woman ever.

I plan on using plain Noctua fans for my next build too.

I'm working backwards, but am now playing Gears of War 4. The series is just so much more fun than most other games I've played.

Is it any different from the previous 40 versions?

Not really? It looks great on PS5/Series X. It plays like Madden has for like the last 5-7 years. It's not a bad game, I only paid like 15$ for it on PS4 and then got the upgrade to PS5 for free. Franchise mode which is what I play the most has basically been untouched for several years. EA focuses on the stuff that they get microtransactions for (Ultimate Team).

I wouldn't pay full price for it. If it's free on game pass it's worth giving a spin IMO.

It's weird, when I was a kid, 90% of the games I played were sports games. Now, most don't interest me at all. I may check it out when it comes to GamePass, if only to make full use of my investment.

I was never into the Maddens and those type of sports games. I enjoyed the more cartoonish ones if I did play them. Baseball Stars, Punch out, Blitz, Blades of Steel, NBA Jam, etc.

I think the only "serious" if you will sports game I ever put a bunch of time in was Tiger Woods golf 2004 or something.

I was more of an "Ice Hockey" kid.

I remember playing "ice hockey" on the NES for hours on end with my friends growing up when I was younger. We played blades of steel as well, but Ice Hockey was the hockey game on the NES for us. It was so simple (fat guy, not quite as fat guy, skinny guy), yet so much fun.

Then NHL 94... oh man the memories. Many a weekend was spent poured into the early NHL games on Sega. I think NHL 94 was the first one with the full on license and all the players. NHL Hockey had the NHL license (but just player numbers), and NHLPA hockey had the NHLPA license so it had players, but no NHL license so no real teams.

SNES had a game called Wayne Gretzky Hockey or something that was supposed to be from a 3D type perspective. Every time you get the puck the camera would swing all the way around and follow you. Was somewhat revolutionary for the time but it's completely unplayable now.

Let's be honest, we all played Blades of Steel for the fighting. That was literally goal #1 for me in every game.

No way. The shootout was the best in that game. Don’t get me wrong, fighting was amazing

I played Blades of Steel to play the mini Galaga demo during the 2nd intermission on the scoreboard.

Wow, this brings back some memories. When I was on the CGC Acushnet (yes, it saw time during World War II), we had a Playstation and Tiger Woods 2004 in the wardroom. The captain loved the game; sometimes, when I had the mid watch, I would head up to the wardroom early to play a round with him. I remember that was the game where you could drive the ball over 400 yards if you used the power smash, etc. A score above 55 was disappointing.

The Ringer is doing a video game week, and aside from the obligatory best character tourney poll, there have been a couple solid features out regarding games and the movie industry...
