For Thanksgiving, we ate outside or did takeout. The county/city had a mask ordinance at the time, so we felt fairly safe. Most people were actually wearing the mask properly, too.

But it's a 3-hour drive for us, and no way I'm flying on a virus coffin plane for a while.

Anyone been to white mountain national forest, NH? Gonna make a stopover there before heading to Acadia and looking for some hike/view suggestions.

Yes sir. Beautiful. Franconia Notch is great, and it's right off of Interstate 93.

The Flume Gorge trail is a nice easy 2ish mile hike. Mount Washington is a must visit imo. You can either take your car up, hike (good luck lol), or take the old cog railway. I've done both the railway and car. Driving up is fun but can be slightly white knuckle experience. We had to pull over three times and blast the heat to cool down the engine.

Awesome, we aren't going to have a lot of time there, just staying for a night outside Lincoln in between our stays in Salem and Acadia. Flume gorge trail looks incredible, that's definitely on the list as the kids will enjoy that. We are going to try to pack as much in as possible, so I was looking at flume gorge and mt Willard as that seems to be relatively close by. Mt washington appears to be another hour added to the flume/Willard hike, so we may have to do that the next day on our way to Acadia, but I also wanted to take the kancamagus scenic byway over to portland and head up rt 1 for the drive into acadia, so we'll have to way our options there. Maybe take rt 1 home. The mt morgan trailhead is close to our cabin so I was thinking do that in morning before heading to flume. There is so much to see, so this is very difficult. I have ancestors dating back to the 1730s and they still have a cemetery in Gilmanton, so that's our first stop from Salem. Since we are short on time, do you have suggestions on what's best to hit the views?

If you like a lot of hills and not a lot of artificial light, you will like White River NF

@shafnutz05

Here's what I'm thinking

Salem to flume gorge to mt Willard to champney falls via the kanc to complete the loop back to our place outside Lincoln, then an evening hike close to home (maybe mt Morgan). Figure we could do that all in 10 hours. Wake up and head to Acadia via my washington.

That is definitely doable, just don't overdo it :)

One of the great challenges to travel when living in a rural place, is picking which airport to use. Or if driving is easier.

A friend and her daughter are going to Disney World this week. Instead of a seven hour drive, they elected to drive 3 hours to RDU, arrive 2 hours early, deal with security, for a two hour flight.

Doing some Googling, it looks like there are $23 one way flights between RDU and MCO. OK, that makes more sense.

We usually rent a minivan for our trips. I talk to enterprise ahead of time and they usually hook me up with a fully loaded van with tv screens. My work discount comes out to about half off as well. Kids think that is awesome. My main reason for driving is so I can bring home a shitload of beer from wherever we travel. I also like driving.

If WDW was a 7 hour drive, I’d be there every weekend.

I think I have 2-3 more years before I’m forced to go back to Disney World.

The next time I'm back there should be a ton of new ****. I haven't seen Galaxy's Edge yet, then there's Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railroad, Tron, GotG coaster, Ratatouille, the 50th anniversary celebration/whatever that brings, and hopefully Epcot's redesign is complete. A lot of that is on pause due to the pandemic but the rides should all be really close to complete.

We rent vehicles quite a bit for day trips and sometimes longer. Paid off when I hit a bird on the NY Thruway, destroying the drivers side mirror. Stopped at Rochester Airport National location, swapped out for an identical Acadia, Visa paid for the repair, easy peasy and didn't have to deal with the BS that would have come with getting my own vehicle repaired.

It's also a good way to test out a different vehicle. Got a BMW 3 series last time and was able to cross it off the list of cars I was considering.

Am I crazy for thinking about a cruise in January 22?

The prices are insane low right now.

Yes, but I wouldn’t go on a cruise if you paid me.

I thought Covid would derail rental properties, but I'm seeing no difference in prices than I was a year ago.

We got away for a trip to the mountains in Northeast PA in October. It was great... Got to escape to a cabin in the woods for a change of scenery but were still isolated obviously.

Nope, HHI prices are about the same as the last time we went for the summer in 2019.

I have my two Maui units from 2020 deposited with II, and availability is still pretty scarce. I was expecting much more, because I'm thinking about exchanging one of them for HHI this summer, and possibly using the other to extend next year's trip.

I'm apparently an dadhole for assuming that flights would be cheaper this year. $850/person for PHL->OGG, and that's before MCE charges. **** absurd.
