COVID-19

Postby tifosi77 » Fri Feb 19, 2021 12:59 pm

Just got word from friends back in PA that a guy I graduated from high school with just passed away from COVID yesterday. As the saying goes, we weren't friends but we were friendly; the kind of thing where weren't connected on Facebook, but would occasionally end up in the same comment threads with mutual friends.

More great news:
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine does not need to be stored in expensive deep freezers that have posed challenges to the vaccination campaign, the company announced Friday.

Pfizer submitted data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) showing the vaccine is stable when stored between minus 13 degrees and 5 degrees Fahrenheit, temperatures commonly found in pharmaceutical freezers and refrigerators.

The company is asking the FDA to update its authorization of the vaccine to allow for vials to be stored at these temperatures for a total of two weeks as an alternative or complement to colder freezers.

Maybe this is too inside baseball but what about the mRNA vaccines require them to be stored at such cold temperatures? Is it to preserve the mRNA structure?

That’s precisely why. It sounds like they’re finding that it doesn’t need to be quite so cold in order to be preserved for a set period of time. This should help get more people vaccinated, quicker.

What’s the bigger bottleneck atm: production or distribution? Specifically with Moderna and Pfizer. I know J&J and others are on their way and don’t have the same requirements not efficacy

Second dose update. It knocked me out. I woke up a little off yesterday and slowly went down hill all day. You know that day before you wake up with the flu? That’s what it was like. Taking 600mlg of Advil really helped throughout the day. Woke up today with that kitty litter feeling in my mouth, but I’m climbing out of the funk.

COVID-19

My wife (and kid’s school district) surveyed teachers and staff about whether or not they wanted a vaccine a week or two ago.

This morning, my wife got an email to sign up with our local hospital for an upcoming vaccine clinic. It was sent out via the district office to all “yes” respondents.

It was not sent BCC. :face:

My wife can see who said yes, which deductively means she can see who said no (or not sure). Folks, it’s scary the number of people who don’t want the vaccine.

This has been consistent among the healthy people in my friend group. You'll be like 100% better in a few hours...kitty litter ingesting or not...

the school's here did a similar thing with similar results. my thought on the vaccine is this:
get it, don't get it, that's your choice (job status not withstanding) but if you don't get it,
1) don't complain to me about lockdowns
2) I will have no sympathy for you when you get COVID
3) if you die from COVID it will piss me off because what a waste that could've been avoided.

Is there any indication what the biggest fear with the vaccine is?

It can’t be the microchip thing. That’s just too ridiculous for large swaths if the population to believe

I guess it’s the mRNA vaccine thing but what do they think will happen? That it’ll affect their dna?

“It was developed too fast” is the most common excuse that I have heard. Meanwhile these same people are the ones consistently complaining about masks, restrictions, etc. They want the pandemic to be over but don’t want to take the biggest step towards actually ending it.

Some are people who already got it elsewhere though, right?

Not saying there aren't more than expected who don't want it for no good reason of course.
