Malkin’s poor play is an absolute drain on this team.

Spam-text this to all PP personnel. Blow it up and post it in the locker room.

I’m not being reactionary here, but for those who understand hockey a lot more than me....
Is there any benefit to moving Malkin to wing? Like in a vacuum, if we had the centers to do it, would he beneficial for him to transition at this point in his career? I just think of what Lemieux did and how it did really prolong his career. I’m just really struggling to see Geno play the 200 foot game necessary for centers to play in the modern game and also contribute the way he needs to offensively

Everyone on the PP needs to be fitted with dog-training shock collars that will zap them if there are more than two passes in a row in the offensive zone.

This might be our ceiling this year. An average team. Aren’t we just about .500 since last year’s trade deadline or even earlier?
I feel like we are holding this team to a higher standard than deserved. What about the makeup of their roster or their play over the past year leads us to think they should be winning more games than they lose? Because they won back to back cups half a decade ago? We might be in denial as a fan base. This mediocrity seems like it might be the new normal rather than a situation where the team is playing below their capabilities.

I don’t think a many fans on here are in denial. I think we all agree that the team is outskilled against good teams and uninspired against bad teams. Not a great combinationThis might be our ceiling this year. An average team. Aren’t we just about .500 since last year’s trade deadline or even earlier?

I would try to get that Hornqvist guy from Florida. Tough competitor. Net front presence. Leaves it all out on the ice. 5 goals in 6 games, including 3 on the power play. Just a thought.

It's hard to really judge a team when their first d pairing is out, the preseason 4, 5 & 7 are out..
I mean they're down to the 3 & 4 and basically, 6, 8, 9 and 10? Woof. They surely haven't looked great but I'd at least like to see them somewhat healthy before writing them off. Thank goodness for POJ

There's no need for voice-of-reasony reality checks. This is most definitely not their ceiling. I thought the Pens for the most part played a good game and should've easily won. There is simply no excuse for the power play being this sh't and even less of an excuse for it being such a reliable momentum killer. I actually think the Pens win this game if they just go through their normal rotation.

for sure. it's not a challenge to play against the Pens PP. they simply don't move enough. the opposing 4 can set up their box and then just keep their sticks in the lanes. Pens won't shoot without a clear lane. we need some cycling on the PP.Just finished the game. The impotent pp lost this one.

We already don't have enough centers that can manage all that ice...if we were brimming with centers, sure...but Malkin isn't even willing to shoot at the moment...I'd buy it if we had the goods to make it happen...I’m not being reactionary here, but for those who understand hockey a lot more than me....

I do think the Pens are a mediocre team. Healthy or not. Bubble team to make the playoffs. They have lost handily to the good teams in the division (PHI/BOS) and just gave away 2 points to one of the other mediocre/bad teams they need to be beating consistently to make the top 4. Giving away a bunch of loser points for the OT/Shootout wins also is not a recipe for success for these guys.
We're all counting on a bunch of guys in their mid 30s with 15 years of NHL hardship on their bodies to carry this team. Unlikely--as much as I hate to say it.
