I wish I had more access to Indian food. Outside of an instant pot chicken tikka masala and Kenny Kangaroo’s excellent aloo chana soup, I don’t get to eat it much. I live with a bunch of lame losers who don’t like spicy food. :lol:
That's another thing we're lucky to have - two Indian restaurants within 10 minutes that have amazing food. And both are on DoorDash.

One of my favorite things to cook in our air fryer now is sweet potato fries. My own recipe:

Ingredients:
• 1 large sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch wide fries
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1/4 teaspoon pepper
• 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/8 teaspoon ground sweet paprika
• 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions:
1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°
2. Combine sweet potato fries and olive oil in a bowl and mix. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cinnamon. Mix until all fries are evenly coated
3. Place an even layer of sweet potatoes in the fry basket, insert in the air fryer, and cook until golden, about 9-10 minutes

So simple, yet so good. *chef’s kiss*
Try adding some corn starch to the seasoning mix. It adds some crunch that’s hard to get with sweet potatoes.

I've become a bigger fan of Japanese sweet potatoes than the standard.

Hawaiian/Okinawan sweet potatoes are my favorite, but I've never seen them sold outside of the west coast and Hawai'i.

Our tiny local Chinese takeout is doing pad Thai today. They took pre-orders because they said they needed 20 orders to not lose money (there's an expensive ingredient that spoils quickly? Idk what it is..) so we're pretty stoked for lunch as the closest place to get pad Thai to us is at least 30 mins away. Apparently theirs is amazing, I've never had it but they only have done it one other time.
I'm looking forward to tif giving some speech on thai food and the planting seasons of tamarind fruit or something, but no, there really isn't any expensive ingredient in there.

that being said, this post, plus watching some shows on tastemade about street food in Indonesia and Malaysia last night are really giving me a hankering for some stir fry
Attention Valued Customers
As you know, we stopped serving PAD THAI because of the special ingredients required for preparation. These particular items do not align with any of our other menu items making it difficult to avoid waste because we will only use the freshest ingredients.
I'd like to get your opinion about something we are considering:
If we chose days that we would cook Pad Thai, we would need a minimum of _________ orders to use all the ingredients quickly while they are freshest. Would you be willing to preorder and if we have enough orders, we will prepare the dish.
Please let us know your thoughts as we LOVE our customers and want to please you!

We ordered 2 dishes for $15 each. I can't even finish half and my wife finished like 1/4 of hers. Very good.

I had no idea that Japanese sweet potatoes were different. I don't have any and have never seen them in stores. I do, however, have a bottle of satsuma-imo shochu, which is a variety of Japanese shochu made from sweet potatoes. I'll drink some of that.

On my wife’s suggestion, we did a surf and turf tonight for new year’s. Lobster tails, crab legs, and strip steak with a sushi appetizer. Washed it down with a Great Lakes Christmas ale. Excellent holiday at home

I haven't had crab legs in so long.

I swear they've pretty much tripled in price since I last bought them. Wonder why?

I haven't had crab legs in so long.

I have snow crab in my freezer right now, third time in as many months. My local grocery store has been putting them on sale for $8.99/lb. quite often.

That's aboit what I'd expect. I saw them here "on sale" for 16.99. I thought they were king crab at that price, but nope.

$17/lb for snow crab? Lolol, that’s just insane. Fresh Market is the only place I have seen king crab in forever, and I want to say that it was $26/lb at the time.

There's a food truck in SF called Roli Roti that specializes in porchetta and potatoes that are roasted in the drippings of said porchetta. TIL you can get packaged porchetta and potatoes from Roli Roti at Costco to cook from home.

They're not Leonard's, but my shipment of malasadas from Pipeline Bakery in Oahu just arrived. Even the box smells amazing.
We ever to Leonard's when we were in Hawaii and it was amazing. We finished of 6 malasadas in 12 hours ha.

These are really damn good, even for being shipped thousands of miles and reheated in a toaster oven. I got the variety pack, so we knocked out the plain ones today. I’m thinking the coffee ones will be perfect for breakfast tomorrow.

Made burgers in the air fryer today, and they were outstanding. 17 minutes @ 370, and they were juicy on the inside with a nice crust on the outside. Definitely beats grilling them when it’s 30 degrees outside.

Made 2 batches of biscotti today. I’ve never tried to make it before but we caught a rerun of Great British where they were making them and decided to give it a go. Almond for one, orange cranberry for the other. Drizzled them both with chocolate. Delicious and super easy.

I've gotta say, never even thought about doing this but I'm intrigued. As much as I love grilling I do hate when it's cold and windy.

Been by it several times, but never stopped in. Not really my kind of thing; I know Adam Savage lives in that neighborhood and talks about going to Tartine all the time.

Robertson has been on just about every food/travel/cooking show I watch over the last few years, he's a legit phenom.
