1,600 for a snowblower in PA is such a waste of money unless you live in Erie
He told me he bought it last year and was bummed because he never got to use it. The dude did the whole neighborhood. He's getting his money's worth.

I did my next door neighbor's sidewalk and part of her driveway, and a good portion of the street to make it easier to get in and out of the driveways.

Yeah it's definitely worth the money... Imo, snowstorms are a social event and it's fun being outside with neighbors the morning after.

That said, I caught a break with not getting my snowblower fixed yet. It only took me a little over an hour to clear my driveway, glad the accumulation wasn't worse. Really need to get on that,

Glad I rented a log splitter last weekend. Started with a couple friends with axes and half hour in at full bore, we realized were getting too old for this ****.

$70 for a four-hour rental at Home Depot was a Godsend. Now have about two cords of seasoned oak.

One of those Pex lines springs a leak, and you're basically repaying for it again.

Better to go with a steel tube with a wire run through it. That's what we did at my old job to heat the guideway for those rubber-tired airport trains.
TOH posted a clip of the episode I mentioned on FB today, and I found the video:

My home just appraised at 90k higher than when I bought it 3 years ago. Ordered one as part of my refi. Big day. That puts me well above 20% equity which means I can start thinking about borrowing against my equity for some of the other work I want to do.

I'm replacing my bathroom flooring some time this winter and have decided I may as well replace my toilet while I'm at it. Since I put the tongue and groove pine in, the current toilet is extremely tight against the wall - probably bordering on too tight. From measuring, it appeared it has an 11" rough in. When I buy a replacement, I want to get something that isn't such a hard fit. Would buying any toilet with a 10" rough in work or is there some variance on tank sizes that I should be aware of?

Went to replace the lightbulb in my daughters room and to my surprise, the base of the bulb wasn’t your typical screw in type. It had two little knobs that connected into the fixture. Well, instead of shopping to find that type of bulb, I wanted to replace the fixture at some point so now was some point.

Got a ceiling fan/light combo last night. Installed it this morning. Easy peasy.

Sounds like a halogen bulb. The fan in our master bedroom has one, which allows it to be a low profile light fixture. Some of those halogen bulbs are bright as hell, too.

I have a few outdoor fixtures that I can't fit bulbs into but it seems like its the fixture, not the bulbs. Maybe the weather messed them up?

I’ve got one project left to tackle at home, and it’s the flooring in our kitchen/bathroom/utility closet/pantry, which would be north of 400sf in total. I’m tired of the area in front of the cabinets being cold, and adding insulation in the basement hasn’t helped. So I’m wanting to do electric heating underneath whatever we decide to use. I’d be open to a vinyl tile, but I think this is one of those times where I should just spend the cash for a nice porcelain tile. It’s far too big an area for me to want to even think about tackling it myself, and I know my wallet’s going to get pounded into submission.

They make offset flanges to move it. I've never used one but I think they work well.

Well, I'll be. Thanks for the tip, mac! I'll definitely buy one.

Worst thing about having inflatables for Christmas.... Maintenance. Nothing worse than getting two inches of rain followed by a flash freeze.

I can attest to this. Had to thaw the lot of them in our kitchen yesterday, and they’re all dirty as ****.

Has anyone here installed one of these in their home?

We got verrrrrry lucky a few years back when a pipe burst that we didn't have more water damage than we did, although we did use the insurance to get our wood laminate floor replaced on the ground level. The reviews are impressive and it sounds like this thing is legit--can detect leaks as small as a drop per minute. Will also automatically shut your water off if it detects a burst.

Looks interesting. I may have to look into that for the in-laws, as they recently had a pipe burst on them. They’re really scared of another burst.

Is it required to operate with a smart phone app, or can it operate on its own? They are very tech illiterate, so anything that needs a smart phone or is too gadgety won’t work

It can operate independently. They demo’d this on This Old House last season, along with a different type of shutoff valve. This one did seem to take a little longer to actually close, but it’s still better than filling a floor with water.

Thanks! Yeah I got a Ring for Christmas and it said it was compatible with the Moen, which is how I found out about it. I honestly had no idea a smart water system even existed.

I got a framing nailer and compressor from Santa.

Now if only lumber prices would fall I could start my basement finishing project... I just called 84 lumber today. 7 something for a 2x4x9 stud... :(

...and I proceeded to go and purchase 300 metal studs to frame in my basement instead of using wood. Got them for 3 dollars a piece. So I guess I'll return the framing nailer and get a good screw gun
