Sounds like they may be announcing the 4k box set today, which is going to release in December
Me: "What about the 4K LOTR boxset?

Fiane: "But you've already bought the blu-rays"

Me: "I've had one, yes. What about second blu-rays?"

Yeah, I've went as far as owning the Canadian version blurays as well because the color timing was different. I have $50 off at best buy, so I'll probably pick lotr and Hobbit up as my kids like both. Will make for a good Christmas present. I'm sure they'll come out with an ultra box set of everything after I buy both separate

That's awesome that it's both theatrical & extended. Though, I'm not sure why anybody would bother watching the theatrical. It kind of sucks that they couldn't also include the appendices so now I have hold onto the blu-rays.

Yep, sounds like 1 disc for theatrical and 2 for 4k EE

I want that as well, but I have a bad feeling I won't be able to wait until summer

That would be a pretty heavy undertaking to remaster the VFX. When those first movies were made, VFX were typically rendered in 2k and then upresed for distribution; it's only been the last couple years where 4k rendering was normal. That'd be pretty great if they did that.

That's why I was kinda taken back by this

Peter Jackson and the team remastered the entirety of both trilogies (and extended editions), including the special effects, to make these masterpieces of cinema look as amazing and breathtaking on your modern devices as the day we saw them in the theater.

Wow, what a thread. That'd be pretty neat if that's where it came from.

I usually rewatch the Lord of the Rings on Thanksgiving, and "Return of the King" has my favorite back-to-back scenes in the trilogy.

As Aragorn bows we then see the four Hobbits return to the Shire and an old lady looks on them and shakes her head at boys she knows to be troublemakers.

Humility and honor.

If I ever reach a stage of life where "My friends, you bow to no one" fails to make me tear up, I'll eat a bullet. You know, if anyone ever has them in stock again.

The 4k discs are getting some terrific praise. A lot of good technical stuff in here

Just watched that. Good stuff. I got my hobbit and rings 4k movies. They are gifts for the kids for Christmas and I'm currently having a tough time having to wait until then to watch, so maybe that ridiculous shelf elf will bring them this weekend.

Is it an old lady or an old man? Always had trouble telling.

I just saw that those greedy sons of dodints are double dipping... again. There's another 4K UHD collection coming next year.
An Ultimate Collector’s Edition featuring both the theatrical and extended versions of the three films, as well as bonus content (possibly never-before-seen) will be releasing sometime in Summer 2021, as the most comprehensive (and breathtaking, no doubt) collection of the trilogy ever made so far.
