I tagged out on Saturday evening with a 7 point. It was my first ever archery buck.

Nice. I passed on a six pointer a few years ago because I was going to be out with a gun the next few days. Didn't see one buck, was brutal. That was the only time I've ever done archery too, effed that up

The only season I ever hunted was archery. Over that preceding summer, I became f**king Robin Hood, man. Lethal. Could get all 6 shots from my bow quiver into the print of a big crabapple from 30 yds. I was READY.
Opening day, we go out to a trail my uncle and I had scouted in the weeks prior, and I got set up in a natural blind about 15 yds up from the trail. First light, I see a doe come into view. I didn't have a particularly heavy draw on my compound, I could hold it for a good while, and so I drew waiting to see the bucks. Then I heard some rustling directly behind me, and I turned my head around, and there was goddamned 8-point poking its head through the bush into the blind I was occupying like 14 inches from my face. It snorted and bailed, I panic-twanged my arrow off into god knows where, and in that moment I determined that other sports beckoned.

Yeah, If I was alone.. I'd bet I would've passed this one up. It was a cool situation. My buddy invited me to hunt his farm (that NEVER happens) and he called in the buck right at sundown. We were in his elevated redneck blind (wow, that thing is the cats ass). It gave me a perfect shot and I let one fly. Went about 35 yards. Rage hypodermic FTW!

Archery hunting anywhere but from an elevated position is 10x harder.

The blind was up the hillside a bit, so it had perhaps an 8-degree down angle on the trail. So I had that going for me. I just didn't realize hunting was an elaborate game of hide and seek.mac5155 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 2:32 pmThat'd be enough to hook me for life!tifosi77 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 2:00 pm The only season I ever hunted was archery. My daughter and I got in the car at 510 this morning and drove an hour up to do the 8.5 mile Pinnacle/Pulpit Rock hike on the AT. No fog this morning, and wow the views were incredible. We had the whole Vista to ourselves...very proud of her, not too many 7 year olds could hang.
When we left, there must have been a hundred people in the parking area alone. You couldn't pay me to do that hike at any time other than before sunrise.

This is the Pulpit Rock view:
@eddy you've got to try this hike when you are out this way next. Worth the early wakeup

It's insane how rocky the AT is in Pennsylvania. Sturdy boots are a must.

That looks great. We just went and strolled around Mammoth Park.

Love this time of year

High wind advisory, gusts to 55mph today. Severe thunderstorm warning all afternoon.
This is the first year for Sunday hunting in PA. They opened 3 Sundays, and archers got the first one. Ooof, shitty.
