I'd sacrifice a Penn State win vs Indiana for H2P to beat Notre Dame this week.

I'm starting to sour on the Narddog. I thought he did a decent job his first few years in settling the constant churn at the HC position Pitt went through, got decent enough records for a program that went through all of that, etc.
But this year was supposed to be "the year". And even then I expected an 8-3 record after the schedule got switched up. Which is fine because we are playing some tough teams. But man, now I'm expecting 4-7. It it's mainly due to them not cleaning up any of the most easy things to clean up for a team. Penalties, dropped passes, and suspect play calling. Those are things they can control and don't.
And most of that falls on the coach. Especially when it's been a constant thing under his tenure. That and games where they are supposed to win, or can bump us up a notch, they just come out flat because it seems they got in their head their **** dont' stink. And agian, that comes from the top.
He isn't getting fired this year, mainly due to limit funds in the athletic department and schools laying off a ton of people. But the way this year has gone, his seat is going to be super hot next year. And it should be.

The over/under on wins this year was roughly 6 iirc - who expected this to be "the year" outside of definitely rational Pitt fans? That said - year 6, it's time to have had "the year" by now. Anything less than 9 wins next year and it's time to move on

From Friday, September 4th:
Regarding the ulfsters point....this was indeed supposed to be the year. Even if that means that pitt wasn't as good as Clemson or what appears to be a pretty good (though probably not top 5) Notre Dame team, then so be it. But for Pitt, "the year" means no loud wet fart games and possibly a ranking at the end of the year. Maybe 8 or 9 wins (at least based on this newfangled 2020 schedule). Here we are though, with illegal procedure and substitution penalties at the point in the season when the leaves are falling down.https://triblive.com/sports/acc-media-p ... -rankings/
A very pitt ranking of 8th out of 15 in the ACC.
If this is supposed to be Nard dog's best team and pitts best team since the Wanny era, no one else seems to care.

I'm not sticking up for the duzz, just mostly wondering aloud if we are morons (yes) for actually thinking this would be "the year" when everyone in the country outside of the 724/412 area codes predicted a roughly .500 season

which begs the question: if a program has a 3 year starting QB and its best defense in years, how does it muster up a preseason prediction of 6 wins

I mean realistically, what does the "year" for Pitt even mean? One more win than normal?
I just haven't been on the Narduzzi train for a few years now. I see nothing from this guy that would have me reflecting to keep him year after year.
They've still never recovered from firing Wanny, imo.

I'd say 9 wins and ranked, maybe with a bowl win to get to 10. We aren't asking for national championships. It's certainly doableI mean realistically, what does the "year" for Pitt even mean? One more win than normal?

Pickett is one of my favorite Panthers I've watched but 3 year starter doesn't mean he's any good (see: Sunseri, Tino). He's pretty good, but he's not going to go out and take over a game

Ben DiNucci got drafted out of James Madison while Pitt never employed a coach who could figure out how to beat use him or improve his game. The answer is always that Pitt and it’s coaching staff, other than Charlie Partridge, suck.

If pitt took care of bidness against NC state and BC, they would have been ranked in the top 20 and possibly top 15 going into the Miami game. Even with an L against Miami, they still would have been ranked in the top 25. 5-1 would still put Pitt in line for "the year" or at least a better year than most.I mean realistically, what does the "year" for Pitt even mean? On a slightly different topic, I'd like to say I liked some of what I saw in Yellen. I'm used to seeing KSP duck out and roll at the first sign of pressure (which is fine in its own right most times). Yellen had a bit of poise in the pocket and stepped up into the pocket a few times when pressure was coming from the edge and made a throw. It was nice to see. He's much better than Patti

On a seperate note, the women's soccer team, VB team and men's soccer all won big matches yesterday.
And the men's team may be #1 in the country this week.

It’s just one game but I thought Yellen had a little more of a natural touch on his throws than KSP sometimes lacks. If there’s a criticism I have of KSP, it’s that he tends to put a little Favre-esque velocity on throws that don’t really need it. I didn’t see that as much from Yellen. I’d like to see if they try to work the middle seams more with Yellen, because this is one area where the coaches just never seemed to trust Pickett. If I had one criticism of Yellen, it’s that he seemed to throw off his back foot a bit too much. That’s more of an experience issue than anything, so I think that could be corrected. On a slightly different topic, I'd like to say I liked some of what I saw in Yellen. Pitt is a 10.5 point home dog against the giant d-bag fighting irish. I do not foresee a path to victory for pitt unless it would be some sort of grind it out win. But there are certain ingredients necessary for a grind and pitt does not have such ingredients. So instead, I look for a solid defensive performance undermined by some blown assisgnments by guys with 2398572908357 career starts between them and multiple drives stalled out in the redzone.

there's literally nothing pointing to a Pitt win which means they're definitely going to win

This is certainly the game that Pitt can win that will get Narduzzi another year with the program. So I happen to think they'll win it.there's literally nothing pointing to a Pitt win which means they're definitely going to win

As much as I love watching Pitt fans suffer, I am rooting full bore for the Panthers this weekend. I am so sick of ND being shoved down our throats every year; and once again, they are overrated. H2P.

Knowing I shouldn’t be so stupid to actually get my hopes up, I thought even during the preseason that of the marquee games on the schedule, ND presented one of the more favorable matchups for Pitt. ND runs the ball well but Pitt’s run defense is pretty solid and reports are that Camp should be back this week. It feels like Ian Book has been at ND since the Rick Mirer era, but I don’t think their passing game presents as much a threat as other teams Pitt has faced.
The problem again comes down to Pitt’s offense. I’d love to see Whipple allow Yellen to come out throwing because if the o-line couldn’t establish the run against Miami, they sure as hell won’t do it tomorrow without first backing the ND defense off a bit. Involve Addison, Mack, Shocky, & Turner early. I’d love to see them use Sibley they way they did last week and maybe even dust off Daniel Carter because he’s supposedly pretty good, too. Even more than that, how about someone getting Whipple to NOT inexplicably abandon what seemed to be working in the running game for no other reason than to go back to his security blanket Vincent Davis.
Pitt hasn’t had a convincing scoreboard win for almost two years - the last two I recall were the boat-racing of VT and then the win over Wake in 2018 to clinch the Coastal. I don’t expect them to win this weekend let alone win convincingly, but it would be nice to see the offense play like they understand they’re going to need to keep trying to score points to win games, no matter how well the defense plays.
