Forgot to give an update on my weird ass webcam interview last week. No AI grading involvement, but four questions provided in advance, 2 minute time limit on answers, and unlimited retakes. Hell of a way to drive yourself crazy, stop and restarting and any little mistake. Hopefully I get the job and never have to do something like that again.

those who have unlimited vacation time policies, how do you approach them? And how do you approach managing people with them?

Ugh... i would absolutely hate that. On both sides.
I know two people with them... one basically does whatever the F he wants but he also works releases on nights and weekends all the time so nobody bothers him. The other, its basically frowned upon to ever take a day off.

We have limited vacation and sick leave, but we are so shorthanded, I usually feel guilty taking the time off. I am, however, using sick leave if I am under the weather - in the past I've toughed it out, etc. But not this year.
One of my staff has a series of health issues, most real, some exaggerated, but is currently working with a herniated disc in her neck because she needs to save her sick leave for major surgery...which has been put off by the neck injury. She's hopped up on muscle relaxers and painkillers, but still able to function.
She won't take the time off because she feels guilty because we are understaffed and she needs to save it for the major surgery that will happen later this year. It sucks all the way around.

Anyone here good at interviewing?
I have made it to the final round of interviews for a consulting job (which has been like 90 day process of multiple introductory session and now the third interview). And I just had a call with the recruiter and got some feedback that I was a bit too low energy on my last call. I am not "high energy" and I also don't even know what the hell sort of mannerisms the interviewer would deem as both good and high energy?

Hand movements, screaming, and jittery motions. Do it.

Slightly on topic but I just learned today that our director is moving on from a candidate (who was on the last round of interviews and was clearly the front runner) because he had a grammatical error in his "thank you" email. He improperly used a comma. This would have no impact on his job duties, as it's not like he's an editor/proofer. So.. yeah, that **** is mostly out of your hands man.

Your director is a moron. Passing on good people for something trivial like that shows someone is on a power trip. I’ve had peers do the same and try to justify it. It’ll never fly with me.

Sounds like the candidate dodged a bullet.

Yeah no argument there. It seemed very out of character as she’s been super easy to work with. She’s normally very understanding and while she expects a lot, her notes are normally spot on. I wasn’t part of the hiring process but my guess is she wasn’t too keen on that candidate and was looking for an out.

Kind of pisses me off that this is basically what you have do. Act out everything that should naturally be implied by the entire set of circumstances that led to this situation, of the job interview.
